County Executive Shapiro and City of Akron Mayor Horrigan Named 2020 Regional Economic Development Champions

SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—Earlier today, Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and City of Akron Mayor Daniel Horrigan were named Team NEO 2020 Regional Economic Development Champions. The pair received the Community Leaders Award for their work on Elevate Greater Akron. Launched in 2018, Elevate Greater Akron is the collaborative product of Summit County, the City of Akron, the Greater Akron Chamber and the GAR Foundation. This strategic plan has mobilized public, private and philanthropic organizations around common strategic initiatives focused on driving Greater Akron’s economy forward.

“Elevate Greater Akron is the product of incredible collaboration in Summit County. We are accepting this award on behalf of our staff, our partners at the Greater Akron Chamber and GAR Foundation, and many economic development professionals and others who helped launched this initiative and keep it going today,” said Executive Shapiro. “Thank you Team NEO for recognizing the difference this work is making for our businesses and residents.”
