Yesterday evening, County Executive Shapiro and County Council presented a proclamation to Donna Skoda, recently retired Health Commissioner at Summit County Public Health. They declared Monday, November 25, 2024 “Donna Skoda Day” in Summit County.
County Executive Shapiro praised Skoda’s dedication, knowledge and leadership in the face of several significant health emergencies, including H1N1 influenza, Ebola, the opioid epidemic and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Donna’s steady and confident leadership throughout these emergencies, and especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, undoubtedly made a difference in the health and safety of our residents. Donna embodies the spirit of public service and the mission of improving the public’s health. Her legacy is certainly lasting, and we wish her all the best as she begins a new chapter of life,” said Executive Shapiro.
Skoda joined SCPH in 2001 after beginning her career as a registered, licensed dietitian in
Cuyahoga County. In her time at SCPH, she served as Deputy and Assistant Health
Commissioner before becoming Health Commissioner in 2015. Her successor, Christopher
Barker, became Health Commissioner on November 18.
