County Executive Shapiro Honored With Kiwanis Community Advocate Award

SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—County Executive Ilene Shapiro was honored to receive the Downtown Akron Kiwanis Community Advocate Award this morning. She received the award at the club’s second annual Rise and Shine with Kiwanis for Kids event. In giving her the award, the club noted her outstanding leadership and dedication to children and families in Summit County.

“Since 2020, we have made historic investments to support parents and children, from grants to public schools and housing assistance to violence prevention and career development. Our children are our future. We must invest in them and their families now, so they are prepared to lead our community in the future,” said Executive Shapiro. “I am grateful to the Downtown Akron Kiwanis for this award and also thankful for all they do for our community.”

Downtown Akron Kiwanis also awarded Tammy Brady, Akron Public School Director of Special Education, the David James Excellent Educator Award and students in the Construction and Building Technology Program at Ellet and Garfield High Schools the Student Leader Award.
