Disturbance at Citizen’s Bank Macedonia

On 11/2/19 at approx. 1252 hours a Macedonia police officer responded to Citizen’s Bank on Rt 82 for a report of a disturbance.

This is his incident report: “I was advised by dispatch that a representative of Citizens Bank corporate security had requested an officer respond to the Macedonia branch for a report of a female seen on camera causing a disturbance inside the bank. Upon my arrival I spoke with the branch manager, who advised that a customer was no longer in the bank but had caused a disturbance. The branch manager stated that the customer began yelling at a teller when asked to provide identification for a transaction that she was attempting to make. While speaking with other employees, I was advised that this is a common occurrence with the customer. As per their corporate policy all customers have to provide identification while conducting a transaction. The branch manager stated that the customer refused to deal with another employee and began speaking with her, yelling and using foul language. The branch manager stated that they stepped into the nearest available office and the customer requested her business card. The branch manager stated that she advised the customer that she would provide her with a card but she had to get one from her office. On the back wall of this office there is a small shelf that had pamphlets, business cards and bank paperwork on it. The branch manager stated that the customer stepped forward and reached towards this shelf. She believed that the customer was attempting to grab one of the business cards, but due to the paperwork on the shelf, the branch manager attempted to stop her by extending her arm to the wall blocking the customer from reaching the shelf. It should be noted that none of the cards on the shelf belonged to the branch manager and that she advised the customer of this. She stated that the customer accused the branch manager of putting her hands on her. At this time the branch manager advised the customer that there was a camera in the room watching them and that she was calling corporate security. While speaking with corporate security the branch manager was advised that they were calling Macedonia PD, and she advised the customer of this. She stated that at that time the customer left. the branch manager spoke with a corporate security representative further and advised me that Citizens Bank would be closing the customer’s accounts and that they would be contacting her via mail about that. She advised me that she would like a report filed and asked that I contact the customer and advise her that she was no longer allowed at that branch. I advised the branch manager that I would do this.

I then spoke with the customer on the phone telling her why I was calling and that she was not in any kind of trouble. I asked her for her side of the story. I also advised her that she was not allowed back at that branch and that Citizens Bank would be contacting her about the status of her accounts. The customer advised me that she wanted to file a report due to the branch manager putting her hands on her. I advised the customer that I would simply add on to the report that was already opened. the customer stated that she was struck in the arm by the branch manager and when asked if it was with an open hand or a closed fist she stated that everything happened so fast that she was unsure of which, but that her arm was sore from being hit. She stated that she had proof of what happened and when asked what kind of proof she stated that she had a video recording of the incident. I requested that she come to the Macedonia Police Station and provide me with a copy of video recording and a written statement. I advised her that I would also request a copy of the banks security video and add both to this report. At that time the customer stated that the reason she left the bank was because her mother was ill and needed taken to the hospital and that she would not be able to come to the police station. I advised her that I was also working tomorrow and asked if she could come in then. The customer asked if Citizens Bank was filing any criminal charges. I again advised her that they were not and that she was not in any kind of trouble. She stated that she would not be able to come in tomorrow and that she wanted me to note that she was denying any wrong doing and that she did not do anything that the branch manager stated she did. She advised that she was fine with my closing the report with that and asked how she could get a copy of this report. I advised her of the report number and how she could get a copy. No further police action needed at this time.”
