After a 1-0 shutout loss for the Nordonia Knights in their first game, they have been on fire since that loss.
The Knights now have an overall record of (2-1-1) with their current winning percentage sitting at 63%.
Their first win of the season was at home against Bedford where the Knights defeated the Bearcats with a final score of 10-0.
The boys scored 9 goals in the first half, and one goal in the second half of the game.
Team chemistry for the Knights was impressive in this match-up as the players did not seem stingy with the ball.
Jackson Kanengeiser (Jr.), Riley Edgehouse (So.), Matthew Cluse (Sr.), Christian Pickering (So.), Tyler Filips (Sr.), and John Wolf (Jr.) all scored one goal against Bedford, while Senior Connell Rafferty scored the four remaining goals.
The momentum continued as the Knights won again at home against Woodridge (Peninsula), defeating the Bulldogs by a final score of 5-0.
The Knights scored four goals in the first half, and one goal in the second half of the game.
In their most recent game, the Knights tied on the road against Aurora 0-0.
The boys played great defense throughout this game making it back-to-back-to-back games of not giving up any goals.
The offense struggled, but they fought hard to not lose this game.
“The biggest thing for me is that defensively we have improved greatly, our defensive core is gelling quite nicely”, says Head Coach Steve Toth.
“Brett Rapp (Sr.) in goal put in an outstanding effort in goal against Aurora. Our senior back line of Matt Cluse, Ryan Kudla, Alex Willms, Sal LaGuardia, and Junior John Wolf have given us a chance in every game so far. The Bedford and Woodridge games gave us opportunities to work on different phases of the game. Bedford played a very high defensive line, our pace for that game was just too much for that style of play. Woodridge played a very low block 7 or 8 in the box, which gave us the opportunity to work on our possession. Our offensive group of Connell Rafferty (Sr.), (So.) Riley Edgehouse, (Sr.) Casey Edgehouse, (Jr.) Jackson Kanengeiser, with help from (Sr.) Tyler Fillips and (So.) Chrisian Pickering. They are staidly improving goal production which should be just a matter of time. Their defensive work has been quality from the get go.”
The Knights play their next home game Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 7p.m. against Solon.
Let’s see if the Knights can continue their defensive shutouts, and grab another win!
