Fall Season: Nordonia High School Girls Volleyball Team Triumphs in Sectional Finals

The Nordonia High School Girls Volleyball team achieved an impressive victory on Saturday, October 21, 2023, by defeating Boardman High School with a score of 3-1 in the sectional finals. Despite their 9-15 record leading up to the match, the Nordonia Knights managed to upset the 11th-seeded Boardman Spartans, who held a 13-9 record, in four hard-fought sets. The Knights displayed resilience and determination by securing the first, third, and fourth sets while narrowly losing the second set.

The match showcased the skills and strategies of both talented teams. In the first set, the Knights dominated with a 25-18 win. The second set proved more competitive, with the Spartans fighting back and taking it by a score of 25-19. The third set was pivotal in determining the match’s momentum and outcome, as the Knights convincingly won it 25-15. The fourth set was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging points and leads. Ultimately, the Knights clinched it 25-22, sealing their victory and advancing to the district semi-finals.

Rylee Kinnell and Alethia Wilson emerged as the star players for the Knights, with Kinnell leading the team with 23 kills, 9 digs, and one block. Wilson contributed 12 kills, seven digs, and four blocks. The freshman, Addi Lefeld, earned the Golden Knight Award for her valuable contribution to the team, with six kills and one block.

Other players who played a crucial role in the win included Sophomore Nyjah Russ with six kills, Junior Reese Knotts with six kills, Sophomore Mariah Moss with three kills, Junior Riley Barwidi with two kills, Sophomore Morgan Root with two kills, and Sophomore Madison Dupont with two kills.
