Fall Season Preview: Nordonia High School Girls Soccer

We are finally approaching the Fall season once again, which means it is the start of the 2023 season for the Nordonia High School Girls’ Soccer team.

Coming off a (7-10) record last year, the Lady Knights are looking to bounce back this season.

In 2022, the Lady Knights finished their home record at (4-4) and had a struggling away record at (3-6), giving them a 41% winning percentage.

Head Coach Les Gicei is looking forward to taking the team to the next level.

Recapping last year’s season, the Nordonia Knights Girls’ Soccer team started out with a tremendous (3-1) record losing to Lake (Uniontown), but then defeating Ellet (Akron), Madison, and North Olmsted.

The next four games were kept consistent as the Lady Knights went (2-2) between North Royalton, Cuyahoga Falls, Twinsburg, and Hoover (North Canton).

The Lady Knights then began a two-game losing streak as they fell to both Wadsworth and Hudson.

After losing to Hudson, the Lady Knights defeated Riverside (Painesville) with a final score of 2-1.

After beating Riverside, the Lady Knight’s only managed to win one more game in their final six games. That one win came against Perry (Massillon) with a final score of 3-2.

The last five games they lost were against Stow-Munroe Falls (Stow), GlenOak (Canton), Brecksville-Broadview Heights (Broadview Heights), St. Joseph Academy (Cleveland), and Lake (Uniontown).

The last half of the season was rough for the Lady Knights. The end of season losing streak caused them to miss the playoffs.

Coach Gicei is ready to bounce back, and looks to avoid repeating an end of season losing streak for the 2023 season.

Looking ahead for the 2023 Girls’ Soccer season, the schedule looks very similar to 2022 when it comes to the Lady Knight’s opponents.

The Lady Knights could potentially make this a bounce back season if they avoid a season ending losing streak.

As it is a new season, opponents will more likely be tougher this year for the Lady Knight’s compared to last season.

There are many opponents on the upcoming schedule that beat the Lady Knights in 2022, and the rest of the opponents are teams the Lady Knights did not play last season.

The expectations are looking to rise for the Lady Knights as new opponents await, followed by some hopeful revenge games in the making.

All of us here at Nordonia Hills News wish the Lady Knights the best of luck this upcoming season!
