On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, the Nordonia Knights defeated the Solon Comets at home by a final score of 3-2.
This moves the Knights’ current record over .500 sitting at (3-1-1) and a current (1-0) record in their conference.
After the first half, the Knights were trailing the Comets 2-0 going into the second half of the game. This is where the boys rallied.
Three goals were scored in the second half of the game. Jackson Kanengeiser (Jr.), Alex Wilms (Sr.), and Riley Edgehouse (So.) all scoring one goal to take the win over the Solon Comets.
Coach Steve Toth, as always, is proud of his team, and all of their hard work.
He also goes onto to say his boys made history in this game.
“From what I am told it was Nordonia’s first win in school history for boys’ soccer against Solon”, says Head Coach Steve Toth.
“We were a little flat in the first half. We had our chances in the first but could not finish. Solon on the other hand did and put us down by two in the first half. The second half the boys stepped up, our first goal came from Riley Edgehouse, 2nd came from a great cross from Alex Wilms to Jackson Kanengeiser who buried a header far post. The winning goal came from Alex Wilms on a long free kick that found the back of the net. Our defense stepped up as well in the second half to hold Solon for the comeback. For Highland it’s a big game for Nordonia I expect a very even game. Highland is well coached and a very solid team. I feel we must be at our very best to have a chance. It will come down to which team executes the best and gets that one break to turn the game to their favor.”
Even though it was a slow start to the game, the Nordonia Knights pulled it together in the second half to score some goals to tie, and then win the game.
The Nordonia Knight’s are playing their next game on the road Thursday, September 7, 2023, against Highland High School.
After the game against Highland, the boys will go on the road this Saturday September 9, 2023, to play South (Willoughby).
Some exciting games are coming up for the Knights! Stay tuned for future game recaps of the 2023 Nordonia High School boys’ soccer team!
