Northfield Village Fire at 166 Summit Avenue

This evening at 10:29PM a resident at 166 Summit Avenue called 911 reporting that their house was on fire. Police officers in the area also reported that there was a house with heavy smoke coming from it on Summit Ave at about the same time. One resident was self-evacuated through a second floor window prior to the arrival of the fire department. The resident stated he had started cooking and went back to his bedroom while the food on the stove cooked. When he returned down there stairs, he found heavy fire and smoke conditions in the home.

NVFD firefighters arrived on scene on Summit Ave to find a two-story home with fire and smoke showing from all sides of the home. Fire attack water lines were deployed to begin to extinguish the fire in the home and preventing it from spreading to the nearby garage and neighbor’s homes. NVFD was assisted by firefighters from Macedonia, Oakwood, Valley, and Twinsburg Fire Departments in bringing the fire under control. The home experienced significant fire and smoke damage due to the fire. Currently the home is not inhabitable, and the Red Cross is assisting the resident with temporary shelter.

No firefighters reported any injuries during operations. The resident was treated on scene for smoke inhalation, but did not require transport to the hospital.
