Former Officer Charged With Attempted Murder (UPDATED)

A former Newburgh Heights police officer has been charged with attempted murder and is in jail on a $250,000 bond.

Kyle Coyne, 34, was arrested November 22 by Walton Hills Police.

Coyne’s bond was originally $2 million, 10 percent, but was changed at his initial hearing.

Coyne was charged with: attempted murder, a first-degree felony, aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, strangulation, a second-degree felony, felonious assault, a second-degree felony, menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony and improper handling of a firearm, a fourth-degree felony. Coyne was also charged with domestic violence a first-degree misdemeanor.

Coyne’s case was bound over to a grand jury on November 25. His first court appearance in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court was December 2, according to court records.

Walton Hills Police Chief David Kwiatkowski declined to comment on the ongoing investigation, he said.

Coyne’s attorney, Christopher Scott Maher, did not return a call for comment.
