UTILITY IMPOSTORS SCAMMING NORDONIA HILLS AREA
Reports have been sent to me involving a scam occurring in the Nordonia Hills area. The scam apparently involves two younger males going door to door stating that they are with the gas company checking for leaks or water in the lines or that they want to make sure that customers are getting the lowest price gas contract. Their plan might be for them to distract the homeowner in some way and then gain entrance into the house.
The two individuals were wearing some kind of blue vests that showed an insignia of UCG or something like that. They had lanyards on their necks but the tags on them said CHEVY. They both wore black hats. No car or truck was visible anywhere in the area.
NEVER let strangers into your home and try to get as much information on their identity as possible, especially vehicle make and license number. Call 911 Immediately.
SHOULD SOLICITORS BE BANNED IN NORTHFIELD CENTER?
The Board of Trustees will soon be considering a resolution to prohibit door to door solicitors anywhere in our Township. I am therefore soliciting (pun intended) YOUR comments on this issue. Keep in mind that a solicitor ban would not affect religious, political or other First Amendment protected actions.WOULD YOU BE FOR OR AGAINST THIS RESOLUTION? I would appreciate your comments and will pass them on to my fellow two Trustees and publish them in my next newsletter.
ALTERNATE BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED BY TRUSTEES
At our meeting last Monday evening the Board of Trustees unanimously appointed alternate members to the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) and the Zoning Commission. Resident Marc Kaminicki was appointed to the BZA and resident Laura Filippi to the Zoning Commission. Both appointments will extend untilDecember 31, 2017. Their primary responsibility is to fill in for Board members whenever there is an absence on the Board.
Our thanks go out to Janice Biro and Lisa DeLuca who were also considered for the positions.
YOU CAN HELP PREVENT SPRING FLOODING
As I am writing this (last night at 10:30PM), a moderate rainfall with some thunder and lightning is occurring. This is just the beginning of spring and everyone knows that spring can bring some very heavy rainfall. And with that rainfall comes the inevitable flooding.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to make sure that their ditches, culverts and catch basins are cleared of leaves, branches and other debris that can cause blockages. Our Road Department does the best they can to keep culverts on our right-of-way clear but it’s in your best interest to do your part by helping out. It is also your legal responsibility to keep drainage ditches on your property clear to allow the free flow of storm water. In fact, if you fail to maintain your privately-owned drainage ditch and neighbors upstream are flooded due to your lack of maintenance, you could be held financially responsible for damages! Please be responsible and think of your neighbors.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q >>> – Is the chief asking for donations? What’s the point of the shopping list with prices?
A >>> – You are referring to the Fire Department update in my last newsletter. Chief Black’s “shopping list” as you put it, is actually a list of both required and needed equipment for our emergency vehicles. Remember, the $375,000 that we are paying for our contract with Macedonia is only for personnel. This is a fact that has been made well known to everyone. The other fact that was made well known is that ALL other expenditures above and beyond that $375,000 are up to us!
Q >>> – Do you know what happened on Twinsburg Road last week? It was blocked at Wolfscape. Does the Township have an alert system similar to NIXLE? It would’ve been helpful on that morning.
A >>> – There was an accident …. Tree vs car. There is no mechanism that I am aware of to alert folks to a vehicular accident. Let’s put it this way, deputies on the scene of an accident do not have time to put out a public alert for vehicular accidents. It should also be pointed out that IF there was a system in place, the accident scene would most likely be cleared by the time any alert would actually be distributed.
Q >>> – I heard that Dunkin Donuts is planning again to build by Giant Eagle. Have you heard anything about this?
A >>> – Yes. Just to keep you informed, the Architect for Dunkin Donuts that had proposed their business two years ago on the properties behind Giant Eagle have sent a revised plan. They are starting the project up again by redesigning it into two buildings with a common drive. There are currently two lots at this location. All variances and permits issued before have expired. Therefore, they will require some new offset variances and permits.
YOUR GENERAL COMMENTS
NOTE – If you would like your name to appear under your
Comments, please type the word “Signed” next to your name
It is apparent that many homeowners will benefit from the branch chipping as there are piles in front yards throughout our Township. Thank you for posting signs allowing us to clean our yard after the storm.

Paul, thank you so much for your help with the barking dog matter. I’m not sure if it is psychosomatic, or poor weather keeping the dogs inside, or your efforts, but the dogs seem to have been a little more tolerable. Maybe their owners have smartened up and had some thought of other people that live near to them. I know that being a trustee is sometimes a thankless job, but my neighbors, my wife and I appreciate all that you do for us.
