I AM ASKING YOU FOR ANOTHER FOUR YEARS
Twelve years ago today I first announced that I was running for Trustee and today I am once again announcing that I filed my paperwork with the Board of Elections to run for a 4th term.
The complexities involved in the administration of our Township have increased nearly exponentially in just the past few years and will most likely continue during the foreseeable future. This fact alone should be reason enough to retain an experienced and dedicated Trustee in office.
For me, being a Trustee is as close to having a full-time job as it gets. I devote a minimum of several hours a day and sometimes much more to this job. I have a PERFECT attendance record for all Trustee meetings and the meetings of the various other Boards on which I proudly serve while representing our Township’s financial, autonomous and strategic interests.
During the next few months I will use this newsletter to share, in review, my past accomplishments as well as some regrets. I will also inform you on the status of some current issues as well as those that we will be facing together in the future. And if you are a current subscriber to this newsletter you are encouraged to ask me any questions or make any respectful comments or criticisms that you wish. Trustee, Chair
TRUSTEE JOHN ROMANIK TO RUN IN NOVEMBER
In January 2006, I was appointed to replace the late Brent Sommer on the Board of Zoning Appeals after he was elected to Trustee. In January 2016, I was appointed to replace Brent as Trustee after his retirement. After working with him for years, I’ll miss his upbeat attitude and constant smile. Brent was very involved in our community and I am glad to be a part of his legacy.
Having served on the Board of Zoning Appeals for ten years, I felt prepared to take over my new position. Of course, I have also gained valuable knowledge and experience as a Trustee of Northfield Center
Township.
In that time, I have taken on the challenges of serving as your Trustee. I feel that the Board of Trustees has made progress on the issues that are facing our community. We have been working with Summit County on drainage problems throughout the township and on the upcoming Sheriff’s contract renewal. We have given our Service Department the equipment necessary to be more self-sufficient and to make expensive repairs themselves. That alone has saved thousands of dollars.
One of my concerns is developing a plan to deal with an aging Town Hall and Safety Building. I am working to replace the twenty year-old signs at the borders of our township, which are often the first impression others get of Northfield Center. I also want to expand our township parks in order to create a space for families to come together and enjoy themselves.
With these goals in mind, I would be honored to continue to serve the fine residents of Northfield Center as Trustee and I am announcing that I have filed with the Summit County Board of Elections to run in November.
Thank you,
John J. Romanik

COUNTY ENGINEER RESPONDS TO NCT TRUSTEES FLOODING CONCERNS
The Engineer’s Office responded to our letter that was posted in my last newsletter. The letter, which was authored by Trustee Romanik and signed by all three of us, asked very specific questions about their admitted responsibility for maintaining the Mitchel Ditch. Their response is below and you can judge for yourself if this was reasonable or a Brush Off!

Re: Letter from Trustees Dated June 23, 2017 and Published June 27, 2017
Dear Northfield Center Trustees,
This is to acknowledge receipt of your June 23, 2017 letter to this office.
At this time, legislation with potential for revisions to the management of surface water runoff is before Summit County Council, Resolution No. 2017-282. After County Council has reviewed the legislation and makes their decision, and we have a clearer picture of all the options available to address storm water, we will be pleased to meet with you to discuss the steps that may be appropriate to resolve this and other surface water issues in Northfield Center Township.
Thank you for your concern.
Sincerely,
[signed]
