In-Custody Death at Summit County Jail

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office reports the in-custody death of a 52-year-old inmate, David Brown. Mr. David Brown was detained at the Summit County Jail since August 17, 2024, following charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and contempt of court misdemeanor offenses.

On the morning of November 12, 2024, at approximately 0540 hours, Mr. Brown experienced a medical emergency while in his cell. Jail deputies and medical staff promptly responded to the incident, and Akron Emergency (EMS) was called to the scene. Mr. David Brown was transported to Summa Hospital Akron Campus Emergency where, despite the efforts of medical personnel, was later pronounced deceased due to a medical condition.

A thorough investigation into the circumstances and medical condition surrounding David Brown’s death is currently underway. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
