WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) invited high school students in Ohio’s 14th Congressional district to submit their artwork for this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Started in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is an annual contest run by the U.S. House of Representatives where high school students from across the country are invited to showcase their artistic abilities.
“The Congressional Art Competition is a great way for Northeast Ohio students to show the rest of the world just how talented they are,” said Dave. “I’m inspired by how skilled our students are every time I walk through the Capitol where all the winning artwork from across the country hangs. I look forward to seeing all of the submissions this year and to celebrating the winner here in Washington.”
The student with the winning entry will be invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in Washington, D.C., and their artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The second-place entry will be on display in Dave’s Washington D.C. office while the third and fourth-place entries will hang in the Mentor and Twinsburg offices, all for one year.
The deadline for submitting artwork is April 24, 2019. Students can drop off their entries at 8500 Station Street, Room 390, Mentor, Ohio 44060 or Twinsburg Government Center, 10075 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087. Entrants must reside in Ohio’s 14th Congressional District and works are considered by a panel of judges comprised of local artists. Students are encouraged to visit joyce.house.gov to fill out the appropriate paperwork and are welcome to contact Katie Burger in the Mentor office for further guidance on the competition’s rules and guidelines.
