The Nordonia High School girls’ and boys’ soccer teams hosted their 6th annual youth summer soccer camp for grades K-8. The camp took place at Nordonia High School stadium from Tuesday June 28 to Thursday June 30. Children in grades K-4 attended from 5:30pm to 7pm, while grades 5-8 attended from 7pm- 8:30pm, with eighty-eight total participants.
High school girls and boys arrived at 4:30pm to help set up the stations for participants, prior to their arrival. Younger camp participants had various games organized for them that included 1v1s, 3v3s, Simon Says, Red Light Green Light, and Catch the Camp Counselor. For the older camp participants, the games were made to be a little more challenging, including an 8v8 soccer scrimmage towards the end of daily camp times. All activities were supervised by high school soccer players- who took a hands-on approach, with helpful interactions. The last day of camp was celebrated with ice cream. Sophomore Noelle Dubnicka said, “everyone had a great time!”
A special Thank You to the Nordonia High School boys and girls soccer teams for their hard work and dedication, along with the girls head soccer coach Les Gicei, boys head coach Steve Toth, girls coaches- Jeremy Johnson and Mike Codispoti, and NHSA organizer and parent volunteer; Damon Ninham.
According to Coach Gicei, “funds raised from youth soccer camps go directly into the boys and girls soccer programs each year. Both programs have used these funds for additional equipment such as goals, nets, and soccer balls. Soccer fee scholarships have also been provided to those who may have financial need, in order to participate in high school soccer.”
