COLUMBUS—On Tuesday, State Senator Frank LaRose (R-Hudson) introduced legislation that would prohibit an abortion from being performed if the reason for terminating the pregnancy is due to a pre-natal diagnosis of Down syndrome.
“The life of every child is precious, regardless of disability. Every child, no matter the circumstance, has the right to life,” said Senator LaRose. “This legislation will protect the lives of unborn children with disabilities, valuing them as equal members of society.”
The vast majority of unborn children in the U.S., that receive a pre-natal diagnosis of Down syndrome, are aborted. Women who receive such a diagnosis for their child are often pressured to have an abortion by both family and medical professionals. However, research shows a significant number of false-positives occur in pre-natal diagnoses.
