COLUMBUS—On Wednesday, State Senator Frank LaRose (R-Hudson) welcomed leaders and participants from all levels of the Soap Box Derby to the Statehouse for a special presentation recognizing the 2017 champions.
“It was a joy to recognize the Soap Box Derby champions from all across Ohio,” said Senator LaRose. “These young people have demonstrated tremendous skill, innovation and creativity in constructing and racing their cars.”
Every year, young Ohioans from 7 to 18 years old build gravity-powered cars and compete to qualify for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby at Derby Downs in Akron. The International Soap Box Derby is the recognized governing body of Soap Box Derby racing that operates the Derby Downs Track where more than 70 annual events take place.
