My name is Amy Vajdich, and I am a candidate for Nordonia School Board. This year, our schools face many unique challenges. What our school board needs right now is a listener, a learner, and a leader. I believe I can bring all of these skills to our board, and serve the community well.
Listening to the community is key. A school board member should represent the whole community, and be inclusive of all demographics. Through community outreach, I plan to connect with various groups and organizations, and advocate for the diverse needs of Nordonia. When making decisions, I would always consider how those decisions will affect every student, family, citizen, and employee of Nordonia Schools.
While I’ve spent many years as a classroom teacher, and even helped prepare new teachers for their careers, I still feel that the most valuable skill is the ability to be a learner. I am a team player who realizes that there is no room on a school board for personal agenda. When faced with difficult decisions, we should consult professionals and look to the experts to educate and advise us as a board. As an experienced educator with a master’s degree in curriculum, I can surely offer my educational skill sets where they apply. But I’m also eager to learn more from the staff, administration, and learning community.
Finally, I know that leadership is important in the role of a school board member. I earned an endorsement from Kent State University in teacher leadership, and also served my local, regional, and state teachers’ association as a representative and delegate. These experiences have made me a better mentor and advocate, and would serve me well as a member of a school board.
Sincerely,
Amy Vajdich
