Hello! My name is Jesse Ferko, and I am running for NORTHFIELD VILLAGE council ward B, and I am writing this letter to give some reasons why I chose to run for council. I grew up in the Northfield/Macedonia area. My whole life I lived with my dad on May ave in the village, but I spent most of my time with my grandparents on N. Bedford Rd. in Macedonia. My grandparents raised me very old school, to have morals. Love, respect, honesty and loyalty were the main things they raised me on. I was taught to keep an open mind, and I am hoping to use those qualities in my time in office to help the people of the village and the community in any way I can. When I moved back to the village a little over four years ago, I started attending council meetings, at those meetings I started talking with the members of council. I have always wanted to get involved in the village in one way or another, I started talking more with the members of council, and they liked some of my ideas, so I brought up the idea of me running. Ever since then, I have been doing everything I can to be involved in the village and the Nordonia hills community. For the past year I have been on the Recreation Board, and we have planned a couple events that turned out great. We planned an Easter drive through where we had parents drive through the village hall and receive a gift bag and a picture with the Easter bunny. It was a great joy for me seeing the villagers coming out and being a part of the event. We also held a movie in the park at Smith Park with the new movie projector screen the Rec board got for the village. We plan on holding more events in the future for Christmas and hopefully other major holidays.
Being on the Recreation board has taught me how to plan events and organize how to throw them. It also taught me how to work with residents of the village. I plan on using that knowledge to look into holding a village event if I am elected to council. I feel we should have a home day or some form of event thrown for the village each year. I want to get more people out and involved in the community so they can enjoy the place they live in. We can even do some fundraising at the event and use the money towards other things. I have also been in touch with the Rotary club in Macedonia and the Nordonia hills community connections and I am hoping to use being a part of those groups to bring everyone together to help hold an event. For the past few months I have been walking around and talking to fellow villagers and most of them want to see a fair or some event thrown for the village so if I am elected that is something I want to try to bring to the village.
Northfield Village has always been home to me so I feel an attachment to it. When I saw how things are in this world, I just had to go out and do something. I have always been a problem solver and have always loved helping people so being on council in the village would be a dream come true. It would put me in a position to truly help my community, it would let me fight for our village and give me a chance to help make our community truly something great. I have always admired what the Mayor and council have done for the village and I just want to be a part of that and help further the progress of the village. During my walks around ward B I got a chance to speak with the residents and hear what they have to say and make a mental note of their questions and concerns. If elected I plan on walking around and talking with residents as much as I can to keep up to date on what the people want. Now I can’t promise I can fix all of our issues but I can promise that the residents will always have a friend in the village hall. Someone that will always make time to listen, someone who will always fight for what’s best for the village and its residents. Listening to the residents also gave me a chance to see that there are many things that I would like to accomplish when I get in office. I want to make improvements to Huntington park in my ward (new basketball hoop nets, cameras at the park, rubber chip bedding instead of wood chips, new equipment.) I want to create volunteer groups to go out and help clean up the sewers and curbs in my ward and maybe even the whole village. I want to look into what it would take to clean up the part of route 8 that goes through our village. Looking into setting up a neighborhood watch, the safety of the village will be a top priority for me if elected, and I plan on supporting the police/fire departments in any way I can. We need to make sure the men and women in red and blue have the things they need to keep the village safe. Those are only some of the things I plan on doing if elected, there is many more At the end of the day we are all part of the same community. I felt it was my duty to go out and try to make a change, be a part of the village to continue to make Northfield somewhere we all can be proud to live. I just feel a genuine love and respect for the village and its residents and it would be my honor to serve them as councilman of ward B. So I could be the voice of the residents and be in a position to handle their issues and solve their disputes, because that is why they choose to elect me. I feel we could use new ideas and that’s exactly what I aim to bring to the village council. Those are only some reasons why I decided to run for ward B village council of Northfield. With the residents’ help I am sure together we can make the village a safe, beautiful, successful, and wonderful place for us all to live and grow up. The power is in your hands. So go out on November 2nd and vote for JESSE FERKO Northfield village council ward B and let’s make a change together and tackle the issues that face our community.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am hoping to win this election and start down the path to making Northfield the great community that I know it is. I hope, with all your help, together we will.
Sincerely, Jesse Ferko
