Letter to the Editor: Thin Blue Line Flag

The Thin Blue Line flag recognizes the commitment of law enforcement as protectors of our communities. Until recently, one of these flags flew at the intersection of route 82 and Olde 8 for the past few years.

When the township learned of a potential protest against the flag they took action by taking down the flag. Trustees Russ Mazzola and Rich Reville claim that this was done for safety but it appears that they chose the expedient path of kneeling to the protestors rather than taking a stand.

I salute trustee Paul Buescher who said that, had he been consulted, he “would without any hesitation have told them to keep it in place”. It is a difference between doing the right thing or taking the easy way out, perhaps hoping that only the protestors would notice.

Two new flags, with Thin Blue/Red Lines are now flying, one at the Township Hall the other at the safety building. These flags represent all first responders.
