Longwood Manor Status Report For July 2023

THANK YOU, MUSIC LOVERS

Summer evenings… a perfect time for a picnic dinner, a stroll in the park, and music filling the air.

Thursday evening, July 20th, you can have all three as Longwood Manor and Longwood Park once again welcome the University Heights Symphonic Band for their second appearance on the grounds of Longwood Manor. Join us at 7:00pm with your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets (Yogi Bear has not been invited).

University Heights Symphonic Band began its fifty-fourth season this past June. It was founded in June, 1970, by Doctor Harvey Sisler, and sponsored by the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education. Today it is sponsored by the City of University Heights. Doctor Sisler was Conductor and Musical Director until his passing in December, 2010. Since then his position has been filled by Roy Hawthorne; Matt Salvaggio; and the current Director, Devlin Pope. Mr Pope is a music education graduate from Ohio University and is full time Band Director at Garfield Heights High School.

Weekly rehearsals are held Thursday nights. Summer concerts are given on Thursday nights in areas around Northeast Ohio. Concerts during the Fall, Winter, and Spring are performed Sunday afternoons. Home base is Dolan Center at John Carroll University. The music range includes marches; concert band works; and music from Broadway, opera, movies, and television. Concerts are free and open to the public.

More information about the band, their concert schedule, and how you can become a member or supporter, can be found at http://universityheightsband.org
Please join us Thursday, July 20th, at 7:00pm.
