Everyone is familiar with Looney Tunes. The cartoon has been around for 50 plus years and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. The animation has made one significant change that has half of America up in arms and the other half breathing a sigh of relief. Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam can no have guns according to the streaming service HBO Max. A lot of people connect the change to the recent shooting of George Floyd. George Floyd was murdered on May 25th, 2020. HBO’s Looney Tunes aired May 27th, 2020. HBO has not confirmed that the change was due to gun violence and police brutality, but there is a substantial chance that the streaming service made changes to protest what is currently going on. The Looney Tunes series still has its staple cartoon violence, but are they going too far by removing guns? It is essential to watch your children and teach them correct and acceptable behavior. But, here’s the thing, not every child has caring nurturing parents; not every child is loved and looked after. I support Looney Tunes banning guns, and I think this gives parents the perfect opportunity to have a conversation with their children about gun violence. The more in-depth discussions parents have with their children about world social issues, the better our society will be as a whole.
