Macedonia Council Meeting 6-11-2020

Highlights from the City of Macedonia Council meeting. See agenda here.

  • Fireworks will be held on Saturday, July 4th at Longwood Park. The city had to pay half of the month up front that was not refundable. So Mayor Molnar decided to go ahead with the fireworks. Please expect high traffic and some people may be turned away. Please adhere to social distancing guidelines.
  • The city is anticipating a new director for the recreation center. There will probably be a special meeting soon to finalize this new hire. The recreation center was able to open for business on June 1st.
  • The Cemetery Board is looking for a new land. The land that was recently proposed did not pass the soil test.
  • Ball fields are in full use now.
  • July 11 Reworks is hosting a Shred Event and Longwood Park on July 11, 9 am – 12 noon (more info here) this event is for Summit County residents and businesses only. They will not accept plastic bins.

DONATIONS TO THE CITY

Many residents and businesses have given from their heart during these difficult times. Here are some of the donations received: 19 1 gallon of hand sanitizer (approx. value $1,177) was donated by Urban Botanicals, meals for safety forces, Hot Heads donated $300 from mask sales to the police department and also donated 30 masks for the officers and dispatchers, Walmart donated many items, NEO Pressure Washing volunteered to disinfect the local playgrounds, Stan’s Bakery donated cookies for the police department, Specialty Lubricants donated, many residents donated many items and food.

TRANSPORTATION FOR BRIDGE INSPECTION PROGRAM SERVICES

Macedonia owns 5 bridges. A bridge is defined as anything greater than 10 feet wide. Other bridges in Macedonia are owned by: the Summit County, the railroad, or ODOT.

The bridges in Macedonia that will be inspected:

  • Where Indian Creek crosses:
    • Navajo
    • Sioux Lane
    • Berkshire
    • Bluejay Trail
  • Whispering Woods

FIRST READING 
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A
CONTRACT WITH C.A. AGRESTA CONSTRUCTION FOR THE “RIGHT-IN RIGHTOUT” ACCESS DRIVE INTO AND OUT OF THE CROSSINGS/GOLDEN LINK
SHOPPING CENTER. Pending planning commission approval and another funding piece of legislation coming soon at a special meeting.
If all goes well, construction will start later this summer. It will take approximately two months of construction.

THIS RESOLUTION PASSED
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY ENGINEER TO PREPARE PLANS, BIDS
AND SPECIFICATIONS AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ADVERTISE
FOR BIDS TO ENTER INTO CONTRACTS FOR THE HIGHLAND ROAD PAVING
PROJECT. The area that needs paving is from South Bedford Road and Empire Parkway. The city was awarded a grant for this project.

THIS RESOLUTION PASSED
AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ACCEPT NOPEC ENERGIZED COMMUNITY GRANT(S). This is the last of the three payments for the lights on the baseball field.

FIRST READING 
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO ESTABLISH AN OPT-IN NATURAL GAS PROGRAM PURSUANT TO SECTION 4929.27(A)(1) OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE JOINTLY THROUGH NOPEC AS A NOPEC MEMBER. Public hearing will be July 23rd prior to the regular council meeting.

AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE PLAN OF OPERATION AND GOVERNANCE FOR THE NOPEC NATURAL GAS AGGREGATION PROGRAM FOR THE PURPOSE OF JOINTLY ESTABLISHING AND IMPLEMENTING A GAS AGGREGATION PROGRAM AS A NOPEC MEMBER. Public hearing will be July 23rd.

AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 21-2020 RELATIVE
TO THE RENEWAL OF AN EXISTING 5.07 MILL TAX LEVY This resolution is clarifying the language for the tax levy that will go on the ballot in the fall. The tax levy resolution passed at the May 14th meeting.

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1163.02 OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF MACEDONIA RELATIVE TO RESIDENCE DISTRICTS
This change in the ordinance will allow residents to build structures that are 12 X 16 or 12 X 18. Currently residents can only build a structure that is 12 X 12.
