Macedonia City Still Trying To Increase Fleet For Local Streets

Officials are hoping legislation passed on April 13 will finally bring the much needed refurbishing to the aging fleet of squad cars being driven used by Macedonia Police Officers.

Council passed an emergency ordinance authorizing Mayor Nicholas Molnar to enter into a contract with Statewide Ford, Inc. for the purchase of five Ford Explorers, including outfitting the units for police use.

“This is just another step along the way of trying to secure patrol cars,” Chief Yakopovich. “We’ve been through this now for years.”

The city has tried to purchase new patrol cars for several years.

“We can’t get our orders filled,” he said.

Orders have been canceled or not filled for a variety of reasons.

The city has taken delivery of three of the five police vehicles and is awaiting delivery of two more.

Council also issued an Arbor Day Proclamation and recognized dispatcher Karen Nelson.

Christian Costello was ceremoniously sworn in as Executive Lieutenant of the Police Department.

Mayor Nicholas Molnar recognized the Nordonia Knights Boys Bowling Team, and Girls Bowling Team for their seasons.
