MACEDONIA, Ohio – The United Methodist Church of Macedonia has announced its lineup for the 2026 Parish Nurse Talks, a series of educational community meetings designed to support senior health and wellness. This seasonal program provides vital information on aging, mental health, and physical safety to residents throughout the Nordonia Hills area. The 2026 sessions meet monthly on select Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. at the church, located at 1280 East Aurora Road in Macedonia, offering a welcoming environment for seniors and caregivers to access essential community resources.
Addressing Grief and Mental Health Support
The 2026 series opened with a session led by Pastor Josh Elliott from The United Methodist Church of Macedonia. This session focused on navigating the emotional complexities of aging, specifically addressing how personal faith influences life experiences related to grief and loneliness. The 2026 schedule also balances heavy topics with lighthearted community bonding, which included a special entertainment-focused gathering on May 20 highlighting comedy specials by popular comedians Leanne Morgan and Nate Bargatze.
Funeral Planning and Aging in Place
On Wednesday, June 17, Paul Thomas from Ferfolia Funeral Homes will host a session detailing how to prepare ahead for your funeral to alleviate stress on family members. Following this, physical therapist Deb Walko will present on Wednesday, July 15, to address a primary goal for many Northeast Ohio seniors: how to remain independent in your own home. Her presentation will focus specifically on practical, everyday exercises designed to help seniors maintain their physical strength, balance, and stability.
Exploring Summit County Parks and Senior Care Resources
The late summer and autumn sessions transition toward local resources and healthcare navigation. On Wednesday, August 19, naturalist Janean Cufman will highlight local outdoor recreational spaces with her presentation on what Summit County Parks have to offer. As the fall approaches, the program will shift toward critical healthcare deadlines. On Wednesday, September 16, health insurance senior advisor George Popa will lead a session on annual Medicare enrollment assistance to help attendees maximize their coverage benefits. The 2026 program concludes on Wednesday, October 21, with a presentation by Jeff Stanicki, VP of Partner Engagement at The Gathering Place, who will focus on support, education, and empowerment for those touched by cancer.
