Traffic and DUI Incidents
May 20 – I-480 Eastbound Officers arrested Will Allen Heltzel of Kent on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence, driving under suspension, and stopping a vehicle in the roadway. Police found the driver slumped over the wheel in a vehicle still in drive on the highway. During field sobriety testing, officers discovered marijuana and dab wax in the vehicle. The suspect refused both breath and urine tests.
May 20 – I-271 Southbound A high-speed pursuit was terminated after a silver Hyundai fled from a traffic stop. The vehicle was clocked at 88 mph in a 65 mph zone before speeding away onto State Route 8. Officers were unable to identify the license plate or catch the fleeing vehicle.
May 16 – Highland Road Adolphus J. Perkins of Cleveland was arrested for OVI after a witness reported his vehicle traveling erratically on State Route 8. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and had difficulty maintaining balance during field sobriety tests. He cited multiple sclerosis as affecting his mobility during testing.
Theft and Shoplifting
May 19 – Walmart Two separate shoplifting incidents occurred at the Macedonia Commons Walmart location. A juvenile employee was arrested for stealing merchandise totaling $298.19 over eight different occasions. In a second incident, Melanie Dawnette Spears of Akron was arrested for theft after attempting to scan only one item while bagging multiple unpaid items, totaling $32.22 in stolen merchandise.
May 17 – Walmart Christopher Arnett Shirley of Maple Heights and Latina Shufray Summers-Shirley of Maple Heights face charges related to theft of a purse from the store parking lot. Surveillance footage showed the couple taking a brown purse left in a motorized shopping cart by an elderly customer. The purse was later recovered at the police station.
May 15 – TJ Maxx A theft case remains under investigation after loss prevention reported that a suspect stole $132.91 worth of Nike boys’ clothing sets. The suspect was identified through previous theft incidents at the store.
Other Criminal Activity
May 19 – Walmart Parking Lot Brian Daniel Davis of Akron was cited for disorderly conduct after being observed urinating on a vehicle tire in the parking lot. A witness reported the suspicious behavior, prompting the police response.
May 17 – Bristol Court A firearm theft was reported involving a stolen SCCY pistol valued at $500. The incident remains under investigation.
May 15 – I-480 Eastbound A 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen after the owner left it disabled on the highway. The vehicle, valued at over $30,000, was entered into the state database as stolen after the owner returned to find it missing.
Fraud and Identity Cases
May 14 – Forest Point Drive A resident reported identity fraud after discovering unauthorized access to multiple accounts including Charles Schwab, Mint Mobile, and Hotmail. The victim was able to prevent financial losses by stopping transactions in progress.
May 12 – Ledge Acres Road A resident reported telecommunications fraud totaling $5,121 stolen from a savings account through an unauthorized transfer to Goldman Sachs. The bank initiated an investigation with funds expected to be restored within eight days.
Drug-Related Incidents
May 14 – Walmart A methamphetamine pipe was discovered on store shelves by an employee. The used pipe with white residue was logged into evidence as police investigate potential suspects through store surveillance footage.
Assist Other Agency
May 14 – Northcoast Behavioral Hospital Macedonia officers assisted other agencies with scene security following gunshot incidents in the area. Officers provided perimeter control and crime scene management before being cleared from the scene.
