A Macedonia police officer was dispatched to a resident on Stepeny Court in reference to an unknown male attempting to enter the residence.
When police arrived they observed a silver Ford Escape drive past on Bendleton Drive in which the driver of the vehicle matched the description of the suspect that dispatch gave during the initial call. The officer notified another officer of the vehicle fleeing and continued toward the reporting party’s residence. The police officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle as the first police officer was at the residence. The officer then met with the reporting property. He observed several fresh footprints in the snow all around the residence as he walked up on the house.
The homeowner was notified on his phone by his Ring doorbell that there was a motion at the front door. The resident then went downstairs to the front door and saw a male wearing a jacket and a hoodie underneath, at his front door. The suspect was later identified as the driver of the Ford Escape. The resident also stated that the suspect disappeared from the front door and made entry into his garage. The suspect was then attempting to gain entry into the house from the man door into the garage. The resident stated he was holding onto the lock of the garage man door so the suspect could not gain entry into the house.
The officer went back outside and observed the suspects footprints going into the resident’s vehicle which was parked in the driveway. The vehicle had been rifled through with the glove box open and items tossed throughout the front seats. The resident stated that it was not like that when they had parked it. The resident pulled up the video clips recorded by his Ring doorbell. In the video, the suspect is clearly observed at the front door attempting to gain entry into the house from the front door. The police officer took a photo of the suspect in the video and showed it to the officer who had apprehended the driver of the Ford Escape vehicle.
The police officer later checked the rest of the development for the same unique footprints to see if the suspect had broken into any other vehicles or residences in the area. He did observe the suspect’s footprints at several other vehicles in the area and also around other residences. The police officers were able to match the footprints in the snow to the male’s shoes that he was wearing.
The male was charged with Burglary F2 and Receiving Stolen Property M1 through Stow Municipal Court.
