Community fitness hub celebrates quarter-century of service with week-long festivities
The Macedonia Recreation Center will commemorate 25 years of serving the community with special events and activities from November 10-14.
The facility known locally as MAC Rec opened its doors on February 28, 2000, following a groundbreaking ceremony at Longwood Park on November 16, 1998. The 56,000-square-foot center has evolved into a comprehensive wellness destination for residents of all ages.
The recreation center features extensive amenities including a fitness turf area, lap and activity pools, sauna, steam room, hot tub, indoor track, powerlifting platforms, and recently updated locker rooms. The facility offers various weight training and cardiovascular equipment alongside private exercise rooms.
Since opening at 6 a.m. on that February morning in 2000, the center has maintained its role as a community gathering place focused on health and fitness. The facility serves residents from six months to 100 years old through diverse programming and special events throughout the year.
The anniversary celebration week will include special events, giveaways, and family activities. The recreation center staff encourages both longtime members and newcomers to participate in the festivities.
The Macedonia Recreation Center is located at 1494 East Aurora Road. Current operating hours are Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
