Macedonia Resident Scammed Out of $1400 and Other Macedonia Police Reports 7/11/19 – 7/28/19

On 07/25/2019 a Macedonia Resident to report a theft involving a scam. 

The Macedonia police officer met with the reporting party. The reporting party stated that she was selling some furniture on Offer Up, a buy/sell/trade online application. She listed the furniture for $400 and she received an offer from a someone for for $430 on 07/16/2019. She accepted the offer and the person buying the furniture advised they will be sending a check to her in the mail for the items. The seller received the check a couple of days later which was written for the amount of $2127.99. She immediately messaged the buyer inquiring why the check was for so much more than the buying price. After many steps from the buyer in where she purchased moneygrams and sent the buyer, she was suspicious. She then contacted Lifelock and the FBl to report the incident. The FBl advised the seller that this is a common scam in which the fraudulent check is not backed with any funds so the recipient of the check is then responsible if cashed. A police report is needed to report the incident with Lifelock. The seller lost $1400 total in the theft scam. 


7/26/19 5:00pm

A Wal-Mart Loss Prevention associate contacted Macedonia Police after observing a female was “under ringing” some of the merchandise. When stopped and asked about her purchases, she admitted that she did not pay for all of the items. She was charged with one count of theft (M-1) and was transported to city jail, booked and then released her on a P/R (personal recognizance) bond due to no female housing space.

Walmart also reported receiving counterfeit bills from on a separate incident.


There were also theft reports from Cosmo Prof., and Walgreens.


7/25/19 9:24am. Someone found a bicycle in the tall grass just to the west of Faith Fellowship Church on Valley View Road. The bicycle had rust on the chain and appeared to have been sitting there for some time. A Macedonia police officer brought the bike to the station and logged it into evidence as found property.
