TWINSBURG/NORDONIA – The Business Leadership Training (BLT) is a partnership between Kent State Twinsburg Academic Center and the Twinsburg and Nordonia Hills Chambers of Commerce. The BLT bi-monthly programming is free and open to the public.
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, from noon – 1:00 p.m., a virtual event titled “Media Literacy: New Approaches for a New Age” will be presented by Dr. Bonnie Shaker, Associate Professor of English, at Kent State University Twinsburg Academic Center.
Event description: Books. Newspapers. Magazines. Photographs. Movies. Radio. Television. Gone are the days when these were all separate media, each with venerable brands we could trust.
Because of digital convergence, we now receive all of these media in the same way—via powerful computers we hold in the palm of our hands. However, convergence has bred confusion about distinctions between media types. Posts on social media are now called “news,” while newspapers are now called “fake.”
If you’re wondering how to determine quality from questionable information online, join us for a presentation on emerging best practices across academic disciplines—from English, Information Science, History, Media & Journalism Studies, and more—for vetting digital information before you invest time reading, listening, or watching.
Registration is required. Please visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/blt-media-literacy-new-approaches-for-a-new-age-tickets-324121334637 to register for the May 26, 2022, BLT event and receive the Microsoft Teams link.
