Longtime Laundromat Undergoes Extensive Upgrades Including Flooring, Equipment Consolidation.
New owners David Iafelice and partner are transforming the longtime Northfield Center laundromat with a renovation that includes new flooring, updated equipment, and modern payment options.
The wash and dry facility, which has operated since 1970 and was originally a dry cleaner, recently changed hands five weeks ago.
“We removed non-working washers to clear floor space and we’re consolidating equipment to make three of the same size machines in a row,” David explained during a tour of the facility. The renovation also includes structural repairs to walls that lacked proper base plates for years.
A major cleanup effort removed approximately 15 350-gallon bags of accumulated lint from machines and behind equipment. The owners are also replacing old vending machines with new units for snacks and beverages.
Several machines will be upgraded with Dexter Pay, a mobile app payment system that eliminates the need for quarters on larger capacity machines. Traditional coin operation will remain available on older equipment.
The business will introduce weekend drop-off wash, dry and fold service on Saturdays and Sundays in the coming weeks. Despite renovations, the laundromat will maintain its 24/7 operating hours.
The facility will close Monday through Wednesday this week for the new epoxy flooring installation, performed by local contractor Dennis Trusnik who owns Terra Coat. Additional improvements include repairs to address water leaks that benefit the entire shopping plaza.
Owners live nearby in Sagamore Hills and Macedonia, with security cameras installed for monitoring the 24-hour operation.
