CITY OF MACEDONIA
Stepping out on your own after years of having the comfort of steady employment may not be for everyone. However, this brave act was definitely on the radar for new business owner, Jeannine Hausch of Long Tail Knits in Macedonia. Hausch finally decided to take her career in her own hands – literally. When asked how she picked up this craft, Hausch says, “I can’t remember when I started; it’s always been a part of my life.” Further, on Hausch’s website: LongTailKnits.com she credits her grandmother to being a big influence for doing crafts. Grandma’s influence turned into a business to be proud of. While challenging at times, the journey for Hausch was worth it as January 21st marked her official ribbon cutting ceremony with the help of the Nordonia Hills Chamber of Commerce.
Hausch admitted that starting a new business venture was indeed scary and the biggest difficulty lied in financing the business. “But don’t let that discourage you” as Hausch confirmed that with the support of people, especially her husband, her dream became a reality.
Long Tail Knits has a way of standing out because not only do they sell materials needed for their craft, but they also provide lessons for any skill level – which are quite affordable as you can receive two hours of lessons for $25.00, workshops and most importantly that one-on-one support you may not always find when shopping at other locations and are overwhelmed by all of the material choices.
Hausch feels it is her “personal touch” that makes her business what it is. And that very same “personal touch” she is referring to is serving her well as she already has repeat customers after only being open for a short time – since November 21, 2015.
As far as lessons go, Hausch shared advice for all of those who are starting out or may be intimidated by this craft. Her first piece of advice: “You can do it!” Next, you want to take one step at a time. Start with learning to make a stitch and then focus on creating projects such as scarfs or blankets. If you still seem to be struggling rest assured that Hausch will continue to work with you. She is always ready to try a different approach to meet your learning style.
In addition to lessons, Haush is offering workshops, one of which she is teaming up with Whistler’s Glen Alpacas that allow you to create a unique and stunning lamb lock collar. The events don’t stop there. Spinners and weavers are welcome to attend a truck show that is being hosted by Huash along with Whistler’s Glen Alpacas and Black Walnut Alpacas. For more information regarding these upcoming workshops, visit LongTailKnits.com or simply call 234.808.4383.
No matter what you’re looking for, whether it is lessons, materials or simply a place to meet new friends, you will find it here. Every Tuesday and Thursday you can attend open group from 6:00 p.m. until close to socialize, enjoy your craft and your community.
Hausch’s added asset to her business is that she is determined to meet your shopping needs. She says, “If I don’t have it, I will find it for you!” Talk about making the customer happy when the owner is willing to go above and beyond! Hausch’s positive and helpful approach shines just as bright as all of the beautiful, colorful and unique yarns that cover the walls at Long Tail Knits.
