Nonsense in the NEWS – “When a drive thru and an intoxicated driver don’t match” from the Macedonia Police Reports

I was dispatched to a call reference property damage at Taco Bell.

When I received the call I was advised that a white Hyundai sedan had purposely struck a sign in front of the business and then left the scene. The reporting party had advised dispatch that the driver was extremely irate in the drive through and was yelling at them through the speaker because he was asked to hold on for a minute. The reporting party stated this isn’t the first incident they have had with the individual. I inspected the scene of the accident and spoke with a witness who observed everything from the table he was sitting at. The individual gave the vehicle description and a plate number and advised it was a newer white Hyundai and possibly a Sonata. There was a large rock in the grass that was struck with a significant amount of white paint transfer. The “Do Not Enter” sign was also struck with significant damage. There were shards of tail light debris on the ground next to the sign. At the time of the call we were unable to locate the vehicle. Soon after Northfield Village got a call reference about an individual passed out in their car. When NVPD units arrived on scene they identified the same vehicle from the incident. I met with NVPD units on scene. The individual was highly intoxicated and had admitted to drinking. I observed the vehicle a white Hyundai Elantra in the parking lot which matched the description of the vehicle from the recent incident. The vehicle had significant damage to the passenger side with a scratch running along the lower skirt of the car caused by running over the rock. The front passenger bumper was partially torn off from reversing back over the rock. The driver side tail light was shattered and had purple paint transfer from the sign. The individual stated he did not hit anything and that the damage to his vehicle was from three months ago. The damage was fresh on the vehicle. The individual was arrested on scene for Physical Control by Northfield Village and I served him a citation for the original incident.
