The Nordonia 12U Knights were crowned tournament champions for the 12U bracket on Sunday, June 6th at Sagamore Hills Park. The Knights went 4-0-1 for the weekend-long tournament. They played an errorless game to beat the Midwest Stars from Stow 3-2 in the final game. The Knights are managed by Andy Papile and coached by Eric Fisher and Greg Lonczak.
This was a special win for the team because they also played hosts for the 7th Annual Nordonia Knights Baseball Bash tournament. Twenty-two teams traveled to Sagamore Hills Park to compete from ages 8U – 12U. The tournament is a fundraiser to send the 12U team to an out-of-state national tournament. The players and families worked hard all weekend to prepare the ballfields, work the concession stand, sell 50/50 raffle tickets and run a baseball skills competition. Winning the 12U bracket championship was a thrilling way to end a busy weekend.
This is the second tournament championship for the Knights this season as they also won the 12U bracket in the Diamonds for Mom tournament on Mother’s Day weekend in Jackson Township. Thus far this season, the Knights are 23-5-1. They plan to play in the Nations Baseball State Tournament later this month and will travel to Aberdeen, Maryland in July to compete in the Ripken Experience Tournament.
