The Nordonia cross country teams traveled to Boardman High School on September 13 to compete in the Boardman Spartan XC Invitational, facing strong Division 2 competition on the challenging Youngstown course.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Olivia May led the Knights with a 36th-place finish, crossing the line in 20:54.46 in the 5000-meter race. Kaia Seredick followed in 77th place with a time of 22:12.25, while Olivia Pecic rounded out the top three Nordonia finishers in 82nd place at 22:19.82.
Riley Lingo placed 98th with a time of 22:55.84, followed by Emma Purcell in 129th place at 23:49.66. Sofia Bonanno finished 135th in 23:52.13, while Kayla Washington took 140th place with a 24:00.11 performance. Ella Bonanno crossed the line in 149th place at 24:21.84, Dalaney Harvey finished 191st in 25:45.96, and Carmen Wise completed the Nordonia scoring in 209th place with a time of 27:16.77.
The boys’ team was paced by Ethan Mellott, who finished 53rd overall with a time of 17:47.32. Aiden Flynn secured 62nd place in 17:59.31, and Colin May took 103rd place with an 18:28.17 performance.
Mason McFall finished 158th with a time of 19:05.56, followed by Jack Delong in 165th place at 19:11.05. John Jensen took 167th place in 19:13.19, while Samuel Lang finished 176th with a 19:23.94 performance. Nick Kontur placed 203rd in 19:47.36, and Zackary Tomak completed the Knights’ effort in 208th place with a time of 19:50.75.
Both teams used the invitational as preparation for the upcoming league championships and postseason competition.
Middle school boys capture top honors
The success continued at the middle school level, where the Nordonia boys cross country team captured first place out of 19 schools at the Mentor Invitational on September 18. The victory showcased the depth of the Knights’ program across all levels.
