A classic musical fairy tale is headed to the Nordonia High School stage as the Drama Club presents the brand new Broadway adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, April 15th-17th. A timeless classic, Cinderella includes some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most famous songs: “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago” among others. And while it is still the story we all know and love, this version has been updated with some new characters and surprising twists!
Leading this year’s cast are senior Emma Gabor and junior Sam Fujikawa as Ella and Prince Topher. The cast also includes: Becca Jarden as the fairy godmother, Maria Maggard as the evil stepmother, and Kayleigh Wisniewski and Shandrea Veal as the stepsisters. Dakota Pugh, Alexander Posar, and John Turley round out the leading roles. Another 30 actors make up the ensemble of townspeople, dancers, knights, and Lords and Ladies of the Court.
In addition to the cast, there are another 40 students offstage working tirelessly as members of the crews, running tech, and playing in the orchestra, without whom there would be no onstage magic. This year, Cinderella is looking to be one of the biggest shows the Drama Club has ever tackled! There will be a 20 piece orchestra, elaborate sets, and not one but FOUR onstage magical dress transformations!
Helming this year’s musical production is Nordonia High School’s Director of Drama, Chris Simmons. Megan Gargano serves as Choreographer and Assistant Director while Bill Shaffer serves as Musical Director. Michele McNeal has joined the production staff this year as Costumer and will serve as the creative mastermind behind all the fairy tale magic transformations.
Performances of this year’s production of Cinderella will be Friday and Saturday, April 15th and 16th at 8 PM and Sunday, April 17th at 3 PM. There will also be a free preview performance for senior citizens on Thursday, April 14th at 4 PM.
