Nordonia Football: The Bulldogs Bite Hard in the Fourth (VIDEO and PHOTOS)

On Friday your Nordonia Knights took on the Stow Bulldogs at home. Nordonia put up a really strong fight during many lead changes. Both the Knights and the Bulldogs put in maximum effort.  The Bulldogs surging in the fourth for the lead and the win.

The first quarter started with a kickoff to Stow. The Bulldogs were able to produce a touchdown on their first possession. They attempted to go for a two point conversion but were unsuccessful.  On Nordonia’s possession they were able move the chains down the field to get in range for a field goal attempt from 47 yards.  Lastovka drilled it between the pipes to get the Knights on the board for 3.  On Stow’s next drive they fumbled and Nordonia recovered.  Perinne was then able to run it into the end zone for Nordonia’s first touchdown, the score now Nordonia  10, Stow 6. Stow got deep in Nordonia territory but was stopped on 4th down causing a turnover on downs. On Nordonia’s next possession, Levak threw a great pass to Matt Hayes who ran 59 yards for a TD, gaining a bigger lead on Stow.  Nordonia 17, Stow 6.  At the end of the quarter Stow picked off a pass from Billy Levak but did not score before time expired.

At the beginning of the second quarter Stow was able to score a touchdown and complete a 2 point conversion bringing the score 17-14, Nordonia leading. It was Nordonia’s Cooper Rusk who was able to entertain the crowd with a catch in the endzone.  The Knight’s continue to lead the Bulldogs 24-14 after Lastovka’s kick is good.  The Bulldogs scored the next touchdown and the PAT. This brought the score to 24-21, Nordonia still leading. At the end of the 2nd, Lastovka again found the middle of the uprights for 3 points bringing the half to an end. Knights 27, Bulldogs 24.

At the beginning of the second half Nordonia’s punt was blocked and then rolled into the endzone. Stow was able to recover, giving them a touchdown tying the game at 27. During Nordonia’s next possession, Lastovka kicked a beauty from 30 yards putting the Knights on top once again 30-27.  Stow was able to climb back in the lead on their next possession after scoring a touchdown but failing the two point conversion. On Nordonia’s drive the ball was stripped and unfortunately recovered by Stow at the 1. However, soon after that Nordonia was able to recover the ball deep in Stow territory. This in turn gave Nordonia a touchdown bringing them back in the lead with a score of 37-33.  Andrew Lastovka was able to add more to his kicking total with another three pointer. Stow unfortunately threw a long pass to a receiver who ran it in after breaking a Knights tackle. Nordonia was able to block the point after holding onto their lead by one point with a score 40-39. Nordonia’s Joel Jones caught a long bomb for a 73 yard touchdown. The 3rd quarter comes to an end with a score of 47-39.

At the beginning of the 4th. Nordonia  executed a great sack on Stow forcing them to punt. Nordonia was then forced to punt after not getting the first down. Stow’s  pass and run put them in the end zone, decreasing Nordonia’s lead. Nordonia was able to prevent the two-point conversion. Stow was able to put up a last touchdown of the night bringing them in the lead with a score of 47-53. Unfortunately Nordonia was not able to score another touchdown bringing the game to an end with a win for Stow.

Nordonia will be playing their first playoff game this Friday at Home against Lakeside. Nordonia’s overall record is 3 wins and 3 losses, 3-2 in the League.  Make sure to watch the game 10/9 at 7:00pm and as always, Go Knights! You can watch it on our YouTube channel.
