This week’s recap focuses on the Nordonia Girls Varsity Bowling team, who continued their impressive season with another tournament victory, maintaining their undefeated record in match play.
The team participated in the Christmas Spin Invitational at Spins Lanes in Akron, just two days after Christmas. Thirteen teams were part of this competitive tournament, held on Wednesday, December 27th.
Winning their fifth tournament in a row, the Nordonia Lady Knights displayed remarkable skill and collaboration. They came in second place in the qualifying round, which set them up for a string of wins in the Baker Games style. They beat Akron Hoban and Fairport Harbor each in a string of two games. In the final game against Tallmadge, they won two of the three games to win the team title.
Kolbey Lewin had the best set on the team, with a 547. She scored 230, 153, and 164 in her games. After that, Grace Bzdafka had a 489 series with scores of 170, 129, and 190. Kaitlyn McNutt then had a 454 series with scores of 111, 191, and 152. Abby Toronski (154, 154, 132) also added a strong 440 set. The team had to get through a tricky oil pattern, which makes their win even more impressive.
This varsity event also had a junior varsity team. The JV team’s best set was 420, made up of 137, 141, and 142. Madison McEwen came in second with 351 points, made up of 107, 128, and 116. Natasha Andreyko scored 119 points.
In a very important part of the competition, Nordonia beat Tallmadge 162-127 in the most important game. Alexis Demarco’s important 3-10 split strike in the sixth frame was a key play in this game and a big reason why they won.
This is the fifth event win for the 2023–24 season for the Nordonia Girls Bowling team. Their consistent play and teamwork have been amazing. Congratulations to the Lady Knights on all of their wins so far! Good luck in their next games!
