Knights lead Suburban League standings after impressive tournament victories
The Nordonia girls golf team is experiencing one of the most successful starts in school history, winning their first two Suburban League tournaments and capturing a 13-team invitational.
The Knights currently lead the Suburban League standings at the halfway point after victories at Good Park Golf Course and Fox Den Golf Course. Their first league win came Aug. 7 at Good Park, where they tied Hudson with a team score of 335 but claimed victory on the fifth-player tiebreaker.
At Good Park, Natalie Barnes led Nordonia with a 79, earning the third-best score in the National Conference. Maddie Eisner and Carley Sutton both shot 83, while Polly Loney finished with 90, Kayla Joo shot 91 and Tori Chylik carded 109.
The Knights improved their performance at the second league tournament Aug. 15 at Fox Den Golf Course, winning with a team score of 329. Barnes again posted the third-best National Conference score with a 78, followed by Sutton’s 79. Eisner and Loney both shot 86, Joo finished with 94 and Chylik shot 111.
The team’s momentum continued Aug. 16 at the Independence Tournament at Shawnee Hills Golf Course, where Barnes claimed medalist honors with a 71 to lead Nordonia to a 327 team score and victory over 12 other schools. Eisner shot 83, Loney carded 88, Joo finished with 85 and Sutton shot 97.
The Knights have competed in nine tournaments total this season and need just one more league victory to claim the Suburban League championship. Their next league tournament is scheduled for Sept. 8.
