Nordonia High School Girls and Boys Swim Teams Fast Approaching Suburban League Conference Meet

The high school swim teams are working hard and meeting/exceeding goals this season, along with setting records. Both Girls and Boys teams are undefeated in their conference meets (2 and 0). The swim teams are led by Head coach Glenn Yorkievitz, assistant coaches Jean Debonis, Terry Toaz, and Murphy Vance. Andy Pohlmeyer serves as diving coach.

The coaches have been very pleased with how well the team has been swimming in the early part of the year. As a team they have been posting times faster than at this time last year, and the kids are working extremely hard.

Took 4th out of 28 Teams @ Chardon Hilltopper Invitational

Top Point Scorers: Noah Beaver, Noah Holtz, Patrick New Year, Paul Yorkievitz, Colton Frances, Michael Gruber, and Jimmy Alexander

Team Highlights: Haliey Kaminski set the meet record at the Chardon Hilltopper in the 100 Backstroke. Emily Yorkievitz set two new Nordonia high school records in the 200 Free and 500 freestyle at the Jim Stacy Christmas Invitational. Noah Holtz and Noah Beaver both made Finals at the Jim Stacy Christmas Invitational.

According to Coach Yorkievitz, “The Jim Stacy invitational was really a meet that I will remember for a long time. Emily breaking those two records was something she has been working hard towards all season and it was great to see all her hard work pay off.

Hailey also broke the one-minute mark in her 100 fly and continues to be a dominant sprinter. Both of these girls are going to make some noise come tournament time.

Noah Holtz and Noah Beaver have been putting up big swims all year. It’s incredible to see such a work ethic out of these two and continue to push each other every day. That is a very fast meet and to see both of them make finals was very satisfying.”

Team newcomers Avery Holtz and Madisyn Reville will also be competing to get into the OHSAA northeast District meet. These two newcomers have been working hard and improving all year.

The Boys team has some interesting lineups to try and match up with competing teams. Seniors Mason Reville and Michael Gruber will swim any event at any time no matter how much rest they have between events, helping at dual meets. Senior Colton Francis took up the diving event when he saw that we were down to only one diver. Turns out he is one heck of a diver and he is still able to help out by swimming relays and the 50 free.

Divers
Colton Francis, Logan Welch, Loris Jensen, Emily Schonauer have all been having solid years and will be competing to score points at districts, says Pohlmeyer.
