The Nordonia Hills City School District Board of Education’s December 16, 2024 meeting marked a significant transition in leadership, as the board formally accepted the retirement of Principal Louise Teringo and approved Jessica Archer as the next principal of Nordonia High School. Teringo, whose educational leadership spans multiple districts including Twinsburg High School, has served as Nordonia’s High School principal since August 2022. Her impact extends throughout the district, having also served interim positions at Lee Eaton Elementary. Archer, who will take the helm for the 2025-2026 school year, brings impressive credentials as the current Associate Principal and recent recipient of the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators’ Associate Principal of the Year award.
Superintendent Casey Wright highlighted the deliberate succession planning that led to this transition, noting that he recognized Archer’s potential for leadership when hiring her in 2017. “It took me probably six weeks to realize that she is going to be an incredible High School principal,” Clark reflected during the meeting, describing how he intentionally included her in leadership development opportunities throughout her tenure.
The leadership announcement came amid broader discussions about the district’s financial future. During public forum, community members voiced concerns about a proposed permanent operating levy and potential budget cuts. One district parent and homeowner, advocated for passing the levy to prevent cuts to AP courses, busing, and other programs. Another speaker, detailed the practical and financial implications of proposed cuts, particularly focusing on the impact of eliminating high school busing.
Committee reports showcased student achievements, with the Athletics Committee reporting an impressive 3.84 average GPA across 338 fall athletes, led by the girls’ cross country team’s outstanding 4.21 GPA. The Nordonia Schools Foundation highlighted their community impact, including providing 240 weekend food backpacks for students in need.
The board also approved several crucial operational items, including roof replacement agreements and severance plan agreements with the teachers association. These decisions reflect ongoing efforts to balance facility needs with budget constraints. The meeting concluded with the announcement of the January 13th, 2025 organizational meeting, where new board leadership positions will be determined.
The transition in high school leadership, from Teringo’s experienced guidance to Archer’s promising leadership, represents a bright spot for the district as it navigates challenging budget decisions and continues its commitment to educational excellence.
