Some people go to Florida for Spring Break. Nordonia High School sent three different student groups overseas last week to broaden their horizons and expand their knowledge. One group went to France to study the language, another went to Spain, and the largest group did a British Literature tour to Dublin, England, and Paris. All trips were self-financed.
Ten students traveled to France during Spring Break. Highlights of their tour included visiting Paris, the Loire Valley, St. Malo and Normandy. Featured experiences included the Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysees, Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame, Chateau de Chenonceau, Amboise, Chartres Cathedral, Chambord, Mont St. Michel, St. Vincent Cathedral, Arromanches, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery and Memorial, Caen Memorial and Versailles. The France trip was organized by French instructor Mrs. Nancy Eichelberger. Students participating on the trip included Karl Breimaier, Shannon Gray, Emily Greenwood, Noah Markopoulos, Malerie Mysza, Noah Nelisse, Natalie Pastor, Regan Pontius, Megan Ryan and Stefani Schmocker.
Twelve students traveled to Spain during Spring Break. The first stop was the capital of Spain, Madrid where they visited the Royal Palace, the Prado museum, and saw a bullfight. From there they traveled to Toledo a city of three cultures (Christian, Muslim and Jewish). In Granada, the home of La Alhambra the students took a guided tour conducted all in Spanish and the tour guide was impressed with their Spanish skills. Next was Marbella, an exclusive beach resort where the students could relax on the beach before traveling to Seville where they toured a Cathedral, the tomb of Christopher Columbus, and Plaza España used in many movies such as Star Wars, the Dictator, and Game of Thrones. Next stop was the Mezquita, built in the 700’s in Cordoba. The final stop before heading back to Madrid was Segovia and El Escorial. Segovia built an aqueduct 2000 years ago which provided the city its water until 1960.
The Spain trip was organized by Mrs. Pamela Conte. Along with one parent and chaperone were Melissa Bleich, Allison Endrulas, Gabrielle Fee, Emily Gedeon, Daronae Grimes, Macey Hill, Karoline Kress, Emily Lam, Alexis McDonald, Elizabeth McRitchie, Alexis Perney, and Derrick Rizzo.
