Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize.
For April let’s draw a design of our dream rain boots.

Story Times
Baby Time, Thursdays, March 14-April 11, 10:15 a.m. Baby Time is for children under 2. Baby Time features books, bounces, songs, and bubbles followed by a play time.

Story Time, Thursdays, March 14-Arpil 11, 11:30 am. Story time is for children 2-5 accompanied by a parent, or caregiver. It features rhymes, music, sometimes flannels, and bubbles followed by a play time.

After School Club
After School Club is one Wednesday per month, for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade. On Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m. we will make a homemade kaleidoscope.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our next discussion is Thursday, April 11, 2 p.m. to discuss An American Marriage by Tayari Jones.

Teens Do Something
This is a great way for students in 5th through 12th grades to volunteer. We will meet one Saturday a month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to do a different type of project. Please contact us for more details. Saturday, April 13.

Messy Monday
Messy Monday is one Monday a month. On Monday, April 15 at 6 p.m., we will try marble painting with shaving cream.

Plant Talk Series: Nature Photography and the iNaturalist App
Photographer Joan Crookston teams up with librarian (and nature lover) Michele McNeal to teach you how to maximize your phone’s camera and the nature-identifying app iNaturalist to be a contributing Citizen Scientist. Get ready to participate in the City Nature Challenge and the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s fall Bioblitz, or just learn for fun. Monday, April 15, 6:30 p.m.

Computer Skills Series
The Basic Computer Series is designed for anyone new to computers or has never had formal training. In this series you will learn how to use the mouse; keyboard; Windows 10 Operating System; save and organize files and folders; and also get an introduction to the Internet.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 17.

Nordonia Hill Game Time
Join our regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments served. No registration necessary.

Earth Day Make It Take It
We’re celebrating Earth Day on Monday, April 22! Come in any time, all day, and plant cress seeds to take home and grow for your salad.

Learn all about Microsoft’s word processing program Microsoft Word. In this series you will learn how to create/edit documents; format text and paragraphs; insert headers and footers; create PDFs; and more.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be The Secret Place by Tana French on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Blueprint for Self-Publishing Books
In this workshop, join TKI Publishing for their step-by-step publishing process with aspiring authors or those desiring to develop their own publishing company. From the brainstorming phase to the printing, they will share detailed information about the self-publishing process. The goal of this workshop is to equip authors with the knowledge, resources and information they will need to get started and to complete a written manuscript. Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Beginner Writer Program: From Our Front Porches: Quirky Characters on the Streets of Our Lives
This fun, interactive program is for beginning writers who will enjoy tapping your life’s memories, experiences and observations centered on the characters in your life and learning how to bring them to life through writing. You will have an opportunity to put “pen to paper” or through discussions bring selected characters from your experience to life. Tuesday, April 30, 6 p.m.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, April 30, 6 p.m.

Plant Talk Series: The Gardens at Stan Hywet Hall
Join Julie Frey, Director of Museum Services and Curator at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, as she uncovers the hidden history of the historic home’s dramatic landscape design. The Gardens at Stan Hywet Hall highlights the landscape design and garden spaces using information from original correspondence between the Seiberlings and their landscape architect, as well as photographs taken during the early years of the estate. The book touches on the restoration efforts undertaken by the Stan Hywet Hall Foundation since it assumed ownership of the property in 1957. Thursday, May 2, 6:30 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m., we’ll get together for some great crafts. On Monday, May 6 – Let’s decorate eggs with tissue paper.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Digging Dinosaurs
Join Fossil Preparator & Vertebrate Paleontology Lab Manager Lee Hall from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to learn how fossils are found and how CMNH scientists spend their summer living in the bone fields. Every summer, paleontologists from the Museum travel from Ohio to the badlands of Alberta, Canada. Their goal: find and excavate fossils of 75-million-year-old dinosaurs for the Southern Alberta Dinosaur Project. Hall shares the “bare-bones” lifestyle of scientists living in a field camp, and takes you into the badlands for a visit to some of current excavations. From Centrosaurus bone beds to Daspletosaurus skeletons, you’ll really “dig” it! Saturday, May 11, 1 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The English Wife by Lauren Willig on Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m.

Let’s Eat!
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 3:30 p.m. we will get together and create something delicious Tuesday, May 14 – Let’s microwave potatoes to make potato chips!

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, May 14, 6-8 p.m.

Paws for Reading
Read a book to Edmund, a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m.
