Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the August project, let us know what you think of this year’s Mind, Body, & Sole summer reading program!

First-Time Homebuyer’s Seminar
Thinking of buying your first home in the next year? This seminar is for you. A local Nordonia Hills lender and realtor are teaming up to answer your questions. Learn about our local real estate market, how to get pre-qualified, what to look for in a home, and about down payment grants that are available through the state of Ohio. Wednesday, August 17, 6:30 p.m.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 17.

Baby Time
Thursdays, August 18-September 1, 10:15 am
For children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories.

Toddler Story Time

For children 2-3 years old, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Short stories, rhymes, and more!

Preschool Story Time

For children 3-5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten. Stories, rhymes, and more!

Wellness Yoga: Yoga off the Mat
Learn soothing stretches that you can incorporate into your daily life in this gentle yoga series with Diane Bielecki, who graduated from the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga. No mat is needed – stretches are done standing or in a chair. Friday, August 19 and 26 at 12:30 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, August 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion will be “Reader’s Choice” of a pet mystery on Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m.

Steampunk 101, Presented by the Cleveland Zeppelin Union
Cleveland Zeppelin Union, the Cleveland-area steampunk community, presents Steampunk 101 and How to Dress Steampunk, with demonstrations and Q&A sessions. Includes steampunk-themed crafts. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Registration is suggested. Saturday, August 27, 1-3 p.m.

5th & 6th Grade Book Club
We will meet to talk about this month’s book with a drink and a snack. Monday, August 29 at 6:30 p.m. – Pieces and Prayers by Blue Balliett.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Wednesday, August 31, 6 p.m.

The Convention of States
James Petsche discusses the background of Article V of the Constitution, exploring the possibility of a convention of states. Thursday, September 1, 7 p.m. Registration is suggested.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, September 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, September 8 at 2 p.m. We will discuss Life Itself by Roger Ebert.

10th Annual Murder Mystery: “The Oracle’s Misfortune”
Saturday, October 1, 6 pm Madame Vestra has been murdered at the old haunted Sagamore Mansion, and the guilty ghoul is on the loose! Prizes for the successful sleuth, and food for all. For all patrons 16 & over. Ticket entry required. Tickets are free – two per person only. Register in person starting Thursday, September 8, at 7 p.m.

Friends of the Library Book Sale
The Friends of Nordonia Hills Branch Library will hold their Autumn Book Sale Friday, September 9, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. AND Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A $4.00 bag sale begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The preview sale for Friends members is Friday, September 9, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Memberships starting at $5.00 may be purchased at the door. You must be a member to attend.
The library is now accepting donations of gently used hardback and paperback books, video and audio recordings, and board games. No magazines, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, textbooks, or encyclopedias are accepted.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss Mrs. Grant and Madame Jule by Jennifer Chiaverini on Monday, September 12 at 2 p.m.

3rd – 4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m., we will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, September 12, we will read Brambleheart by Henry Cole.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, September 13, 6-8 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe returns to Wednesdays in 2016 starting on Wednesday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Medicare 101
Viktoria Jurkovic with the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Registration is suggested. Thursday, September 15, 2 p.m.

Star Trek Celebrates 50
Julie Washington of the Plain Dealer discusses the landmark science fiction television show, its many related projects, and the impact it has had on pop culture during the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek. Thursday, September 15, 7 p.m. Registration is suggested.

Mini Teen Makerspace
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 6:30 p.m. we will get together and create with a different medium. On Tuesday, September 20, we’re going to program Ozobots.

College Planning Workshop
Come learn the number one way to get more free money for college, how to get the maximum amount of financial aid, and tips on the ACT, SAT, & AP exams. Find out why the new FAFSA rules will cost you thousands of dollars in financial aid and why you should NEVER own a 529 plan or some other popular college savings plans. This workshop is presented in association with Joel Wymer, Certified College Planner of College Planning Strategies. Tuesday, September 20, 6:30 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, September 26 – Yarn art.
