From Golf Course to Conservation Area: the Transformation of Valley View
A few years ago, Summit Metro Parks acquired the Valley View Golf Course in Akron, Ohio. Now known as our Valley View Conservation Area, the acquisition connects Gorge, Sand Run, and Cascade Valley Parks into a SuperPark. Staff at Metro Parks are busy working to restore the area to a natural area for fish, wildlife and ultimately people. Parachute Play

Summer Jazz Series – Moustache Yourself – Gypsy Jazz
Moustache Yourself, Northeast Ohio’s leading gypsy jazz quartet, will play an eclectic mix of songs in the gypsy jazz style, an old-world sound made famous in the 1930s by guitarist Django Reinhardt. Gypsy jazz, also known as gypsy swing, hot club jazz, or by its French name, “Jazz Manouche”, is a musical style made famous in the 1930s by guitarist Django Reinhardt. Northeast Ohio’s leading gypsy jazz quartet, Moustache Yourself, incorporates this style into an eclectic mix of songs, including original compositions with a unique American Bebop influence. Musicians are clarinetist Brad Wagner, bassist Matthew DeRubertis, and guitarists Brent Hamker and Jeremy Jones. Their infectious rhythm and exotic melodies will capture your soul and transport you to a different time and place. Enjoy this rare treat of old world sounds! Thursday, August 8, 6:30 p.m.

Self Defense Basics
Master Timothy R. Loomis, 8th Dan Black Belt, from The Silent Mind martial arts school will introduce self-defense strategies, tactics, and hands-on self-defense techniques during this 90-minute mini-class. Learn that you can confidently and competently defend yourself without resorting to fighting. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes. You will be practicing simple, yet effective self-defense techniques. Registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited. Thursday, September 12, 6 p.m.
