Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the August project, color and match up different construction vehicles!

Cookies and Conversation
The second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m., meet to talk about what’s going on your life, school, town or the world. We’ll discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group’s mind. And remember we have cookies! Wednesday, August 9 at 3:30 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Baby Time
Thursdays, August 10-August 31, 10:15 am
For children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories.

Toddler Story Time
Thursdays, August 10-August 31, 11:15 am
For children 2-3 years old, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Short stories, rhymes, and more!

Preschool Story Time
Thursdays, August 10-August 31, 12:30 pm
For children 3-5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten. Stories, rhymes, and more!

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, August 10 at 2 p.m. We will discuss The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss Beekeeper’s Ball by Susan Wiggs on Monday, August 14 at 2 p.m.

Messy Mondays
Join us for messy fun! Don’t forget to wear some old clothes, you may get messy. On Monday, August 14 at 6 p.m. ice paint.

Wellness Yoga: Yoga Off the Mat
Learn soothing stretches that you can incorporate into your daily life in this gentle yoga series with Diane Bielecki, who graduated from the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga. No mat is needed – stretches are done standing or in a chair. Please dress in comfortable clothing and arrive 5-10 minutes early so that class may begin on time. This class is limited to twenty participants, and registration is strongly suggested. Tuesdays, August 15 and 29, 6:30 p.m.

Cooking Club
An interactive group for discussing all things cooking, comparing recipes, and trying new eats. Third Tuesday of each month. Tuesday, August 15, 7 p.m.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 16.

Terry Pluto: Cleveland Sports Stories
The author and award-winning sportswriter discusses stories and insights about Cleveland sports — Indians, Browns, Cavs, high school, and more. Registration is suggested. Refreshments served. Wednesday, August 16 at 7 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, August 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Teens Do Something
This is a new way for kids going into 5th through 12th grades to volunteer. We will meet on Tuesday, August 22, at 3:30 p.m. to do a different type of project. Some of the things we’re going to be doing are make survival bracelets for the military, cards for shut-ins and cookies for firefighters. Any questions please ask Miss Sue.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be “Reader’s Choice” of a true crime book on Wednesday, August 23 at 7 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, August 28 – come in and make a ball and cup game!

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, August 29, 6 p.m.

College Funding Workshop
The cost of a college education has skyrocketed and, as a result, many parents feel completely overwhelmed, with little to no guidance on how they can minimize the cost of college. College Funding Educators of America was formed to provide comprehensive education to parents so that they can maximize financial aid and understand various college funding strategies that will help reduce their family’s out-of-pocket expenses. Wednesday, August 30, 6:30 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, September 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

11th Annual Murder Mystery: ”The Big Double-Cross”
The chief and the crime boss have arranged a summit to “clear the air.” But someone has been “bumped off,” and everyone is a suspect! Prizes for the successful sleuth, and food for all. For all patrons 16 & over. Ticket entry required. Tickets are free – two per person only. Register in person starting Thursday, September 7 at 7 p.m.
Event will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 6 p.m.

Friends of the Library Book Sale
The Friends of Nordonia Hills Branch Library will hold their Autumn Book Sale Friday, September 8, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. AND Saturday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A $4.00 bag sale begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The preview sale for Friends members is Friday, September 8, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Memberships starting at $5.00 may be purchased at the door. You must be a member to attend.
The library is now accepting donations of gently used hardback and paperback books, video and audio recordings, jigsaw puzzles, and board games. No magazines, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, textbooks, or encyclopedias are accepted.

Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance
Kim Mozzochi with the Area Agency on Aging conducts this FREE exercise series, geared toward older adults wanting to improve strength, flexibility and muscle tone. The sessions meet twice per week for a 12-week period. Registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited. This series may be cancelled due to low attendance. Mondays and Tuesdays, September 11 – November 28, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, September 12, 6-8 p.m.
