Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the December challenge, try your hand at Christmas carols trivia!
Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, December 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.
An Evening with Curtis Taylor
Grammy-Award winning trumpeter Curtis Taylor will perform live with his jazz quartet. Enjoy a very special holiday treat from this musical virtuoso. Tuesday, December 22, 7 p.m. Registration is suggested.
After School Club
After School Club is one Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. for children in Kindergarten – 4th grade. Wednesday, December 23, we will make marshmallow structures.
Holiday Closing
The library will be closed Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25 for Christmas. We will be open regular hours on Saturday, December 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
5th & 6th Grade Book Club
One Monday each month at 6:30 p.m., we will meet to talk about this month’s book over a drink and a snack. Monday, December 28 – Story Thieves by James Riley.
Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, January 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Teen Cafe
For students in grade 5 and up. One Wednesday a month at 4 p.m. Please register for each date. Wednesday, January 6 – Have you ever wanted to show a bunch of people something on your smart phone at the same time? Here’s the solution. Make a smart phone projector.
Science Saturday
Saturday, January 9, 2:30 p.m. Do you like to see how things work? Are you a hands-on type of kid? This program is for you! Children school age and up bring moms, dads, and the whole family.
Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton on Monday, January 11 at 2 p.m.
3rd -4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m. We will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, January 11, we will read The Marble Queen by Stephanie Blake.
Family Night
Join our crafts program for families of all ages! Monday, January 11 at 6:30 p.m. – Decorate your door with a mitten wreath you created.
Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, January 12, 6-8 p.m.
Medicare 101
Viktoria Jurkovic with the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance on Tuesday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents.
Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe returns to Wednesdays in 2016 starting on Wednesday, January 13 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.
Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, January 14 at 2 p.m. We will discuss The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman.
“Books You Might Have Missed – 2015”
The Friends of Nordonia Hills Branch Library welcome you to their annual meeting on Tuesday, January 19 at 7 p.m., to celebrate the previous year’s highlights at the library, plus a look ahead to 2016. Also, meet the new officers of the Friends Board.
Following the general meeting, librarian Patrick Manning presents a book talk, “Books You Might Have Missed – 2015.” Pick up sixty great reading ideas, both fiction and nonfiction. All are welcome – no registration necessary. Coffee and tea served, plus some goodies.
Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion title will be Homicide in Hardcover, by Kate Carlisle on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m.
