Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the June project, Stretch your creativity by turning a box into….whatever you want!

Puppy Training 101
Start your puppy off right and learn the tips and tricks of training a well-behaved puppy from Drew and Michele Delgross of Pet State University. This one-hour seminar will start you out with housetraining, basic commands, and more, but is for owners only – please do not bring your puppy. Registration is suggested. Wednesday, June 28, 6 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be “Reader’s Choice” of a Charles Finch mystery on Wednesday, June 28 at 7 p.m.

Teen Cafe
For students in grade 5 and up. Thursdays at 2 p.m. between June 8 and July 27.
June 29 – 5th Annual Paper Airplane Races! Come race your designs against other worthy opponents.
July 6 – Make an earbud holder.
July 13 – Create a wire ring for yourself or a friend.
July 20 – Make a balloon powered race car & race your friends
July 27 – No Sew T-Shirt Bag. Make your own no-sew, upcycled t-shirt bag. All supplies provided, unless you would like to bring your own t-shirt to turn into a bag.

A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Ian Adams
Photographer and author Ian Adams discusses his decades of work in the Buckeye State, presenting some of his images, and sharing thoughts on capturing the beauty of Ohio. Features photos from his latest book and others from his collection. Registration is suggested. Thursday, June 29, 7 p.m.

Holiday Closing
The library will be closed, Tuesday, July 4, for Independence Day.

Lunch Bunch
Students going into Kindergarten through fourth grades are invited to join Miss Sue for a story and a craft. Bring your lunch and your listening ears. Dessert and beverages will be provided! Please register. Wednesday, June 14 – July 12, 12:30-2 p.m.

Wellness Yoga: Yoga Off the Mat
Learn soothing stretches that you can incorporate into your daily life in this gentle yoga series with Diane Bielecki, who graduated from the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga. No mat is needed – stretches are done standing or in a chair. Please dress in comfortable clothing and arrive 5-10 minutes early so that class may begin on time. This class is limited to twenty participants, and registration is strongly suggested. Wednesdays, July 5 and 19, and Tuesdays, August 15 and 29, 6:30 p.m.

Gettysburg, The Last Invasion
Find out what Robert E. Lee hoped to accomplish for his country and the cause by marching north into Pennsylvania. Historian Paul Goebbel presents the biggest battle of the Civil War from the southern point of view. Registration is suggested. Refreshments served. Thursday, July 6, 7 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, July 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Watercolor Class
Oscar Velasquez teaches beginning watercolor painting, focusing on landscapes. All supplies provided. Space is limited to 25 participants. Registration is required. Saturday, July 8, 1 to 4 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The All-Girl Filing Station’s Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg on Monday, July 10 at 2 p.m.

School Age Fun!
Tuesdays at 2 p.m. For students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
July 11 – Rick Smith Jr., Guinness world record holder, actor, and magician will entertain us with his magic and illusions.
July 18 – Rockin’ Robots-Lets rock with some musical robots.
July 25 – Lindsay Bonilla – Interactive storyteller from World of Difference will share some wonderful stories

Teens Do Something
This is a new way for kids going into 5th through 12th grades to volunteer. We will meet twice a month on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. to do a different type of project. Some of the things we’re going to be doing are make survival bracelets for the military, cards for shut-ins and cookies for firefighters. Any questions please ask Miss Sue. Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, July 11, 6-8 p.m.

The Novel in You: Introduction to Novel Writing
In this six-part writing workshop, each session will provide an in-depth look at a different part of writing, including how to create realistic characters, dialogue and plot, and the tools necessary for bringing out the best of the writer’s work. This unique program is designed to provide encouragement and guidance to both beginning and seasoned writers. Registration is requested. Tuesdays, July 11, 18, and 25, 6:30 p.m.

Cookies and Conversation
The second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m., meet to talk about what’s going on your life, school, town or the world. We’ll discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group’s mind. And remember we have cookies! Wednesday, July 12 at 3:30 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, July 13 at 2 p.m. We will discuss “Reader’s Choice” of a classic.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, July 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Messy Mondays
Join us for messy fun! Don’t forget to wear some old clothes, you may get messy. On Monday, July 17, 6 p.m. we will play with chalk paint.

Cooking Club
An interactive group for discussing all things cooking, comparing recipes, and trying new eats. Third Tuesday of each month. Tuesday, July 18, 7 p.m.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 19.

The Music of Mark Twain
Look at the life and times of one of America’s greatest writers — through a musical lens! Mr. Clemens’ childhood years on the Mississippi, his travels, literary work, and lifelong love of music are brought to life through performances of period songs from composer Stephen Foster and other popular Twain contemporaries, as well folk tunes from the era on popular instruments of the day: fiddle, banjo, guitar, piano, harmonica, and pennywhistle. Registration is suggested. Refreshments served. Thursday, July 20 at 7 p.m.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, July 25, 6 p.m.

Couponing 101
Come learn how to save money using coupons! Rachel Krych, local blogger and columnist, teaches a FUN-FILLED class, where she covers where to get coupons, how to organized them, and how to maximize your savings at stores such as Target, CVS and Giant Eagle. This class is great for beginners! Wednesday, July 26, 6 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, July 31– No need to catch lightning bugs – we’re going to make our own!
