Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the November project, figure out how to put the cupcake pictures in the right order!

Holiday Toy Drive
In partnership with The Emergency Assistance Center of Northfield, the Library is hosting a holiday toy drive. Brand new toys still in the original packaging and gifts for teenagers (such as spirit wear, socks, lotion, etc.) are requested. Drop off donations in the Library lobby. November 13 – December 9.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 15.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, November 18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Messy Monday
Messy Monday is one Monday a month. We will be painting with nature on Monday, November 20 at 6 p.m.

Teen Mini Makerspace
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 6:30 p.m. we will get together and create using a different medium each time. Tuesday, November 21 – gelatin ink painting.

Cooking Club
An interactive group for discussing all things cooking, comparing recipes, and trying new eats. Third Tuesday of each month. Tuesday, November 21, 7 p.m.

Holiday Closing
The library will be closed Thursday, November 23, for Thanksgiving Day. The library is open regular hours on Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25.

Teens Do Something
Need volunteer hours? Join us one Saturday a month from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and drop in at any time. The next meeting will be on Saturday, November 25. Some of the projects we’ll be doing are making library decoration, creating busy bags for Akron Children’s Hospital and cleaning library books and shelves. Any questions please ask Miss Sue.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, November 27 – create your own penny spinner!

Medicare 101
Viktoria Jurkovic with the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. Whether you are new or currently on Medicare, attendees can learn more about recent Medicare plan changes and financial assistance programs, which may help pay prescription drug costs and Part B premiums. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Tuesday, November 28, 6 p.m.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, November 28, 6 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be “Reader’s Choice” of a Dorothy L. Sayers mystery on Wednesday, November 29 at 7 p.m.

The Triple Dog Dare: Author Joanna Wilson
Author and Christmas TV expert Joanna Wilson discusses the 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story to find out what really happens when you watch all 12 screenings of the classic movie non-stop, commercials and all. Along the way, she discusses the traditions of Christmas on TV, the nuances of Bob Clark’s filmmaking, the ongoing appeal of the movie and its relation to the multilayered, literary storytelling of Jean Shepherd. Registration is suggested. Refreshments served. Thursday, November 30, 7 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, December 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DIY: Crafty Christmas
We’re back for our ninth season of fun and cheap gift giving ideas. Learn to create your own affordable holiday gifts on virtually any budget. For teens (8th grade and up) and adults. Class size is limited to 20 participants, so registration is required. Tuesday, December 5, 6:30 p.m.

Holiday Yoga
Find your peace and tranquility during the holiday season with this special yoga session taught by Diane Bielecki, who graduated from the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga. Listen to holiday music as you stretch and meditate to soothe your stress away. Please dress in comfortable clothing and arrive 5-10 minutes early so that class may begin on time. This class is limited to twenty participants, and registration is strongly suggested. Wednesday, December 6, 6:30 p.m.

Don’t Share Your Jewels with Fools: Finding Your Creative Way While Keeping Your Spark
We welcome back author Gary Ockunzzi, together with Dr. Neal May, for a discussion on dodging the pitfalls of self-professed experts; ways to avoid being ripped off; how to stick to your goals; how to keep your creative or artistic hopes and inspirations vibrant; and not cast away your confidence. Registration is suggested. Thursday, December 7, at 7 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss A Baxter Family Christmas, by Karen Kingsbury, on Monday, December 11 at 2 p.m.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, December 12, 6-8 p.m.

Paws for Reading
Read a book to Edmund, a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Tuesday, December 12, 6:30 p.m.

Cookies and Conversation
The second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m., meet to talk about what’s going on your life, school, town or the world. We’ll discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group’s mind. And remember we have cookies! Wednesday, December 13 at 3:30 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, December 14 at 2 p.m. We will discuss Vinegar Girl, by Anne Tyler.

The Holly and the Ivy: Christmas Customs and Traditions
Ever wonder why we kiss under the mistletoe? What do holly, ivy, and evergreen trees have to do with Christmas? Who thought up Santa Claus? You will find the answers to these questions and more as actor/storyteller Sara Showman takes you on a journey that explores beloved Christmas customs. Along the way, you will hear folk tales, religious stories and mythology, as well as Christmas songs. Registration is suggested. Refreshments served. Thursday, December 14, 7 p.m.

After School Club
We will make a pine cone skier craft on Wednesday, December 20 at 4 p.m.
