Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the October project, go on a pumpkin scavenger hunt!

Story Times
Baby Time
Thursdays, October 6-November 3, 10:15 a.m.
For children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories.
Toddler Story Time
Thursdays, October 6-November 3, 11:15 a.m.
For children 2-3 years old, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Short stories, rhymes, and more!
Preschool Story Time
Thursday, October 6-November 3, 12:30 p.m.
For children 3-5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten. Stories, rhymes, and more!

How to Navigate the Medicare Maze
Turning 65 can be an exciting – and confusing – time in your life, especially when it comes to Medicare and the critical choices you need to make. Receiving Medicare benefits but don’t quite understand the system? This presentation guides you through the maze, answers your questions, and explains options regarding Medicare benefits. Wednesday, October 19, 6 p.m.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 19.

Dreams Fulfilled: Creating & Achieving Your Bucket List
You’ve heard the term “Bucket List”; come learn how to create your own list and pursue your lifetime dreams one at a time. Presented by Lynn Hermensky of Hospice of the Western Reserve. Refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested. Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m.

Winston Churchill: A Dramatic Portrayal
Scholar-actor Dr. Kevin Radaker returns with his new dramatic portrayal of Winston Churchill. This 90-minute program emphasizes Churchill’s inspirational eloquence and determined pugnacity in leading Britain during World War II, and his tireless efforts to reduce tensions during the first decade of the Cold War. Refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested. Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, October 24 – Scary spiders!

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesdays, October 25 and November 29, 6 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion will be Buttons and Bones, by Monica Ferris, on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m.

Oddball Ohio
Bill Brauning presents a look at the interesting and quirky places and things in Ohio that are off the beaten path. Refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested. Thursday, October 27, 7 p.m.

Mysteries of the Afterlife
Join John Carroll University’s Paranormal Research Group for an exploration of the world of the paranormal. After three years investigating paranormal phenomena, they will share stories, history, and evidence from locations around Ohio and the Midwest. Saturday, October 29, 2 p.m.

Mars: Outpost to the Stars
Waiting for the day when humanity finally steps foot on Mars? Join Jeff Woytach from the NASA Glenn Research Center for a fascinating talk on the red planet – what we know about Mars from unmanned missions, why and how we need to get there, and just how difficult the journey will be. Tuesday, November 1, 6:30 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, November 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NanoWriMo Write-In
Taking on the NanoWriMo challenge to write 50,000 words of your novel in a month? Come Write In here at the library in a quiet, distraction free environment. Light refreshments provided. Saturday, November 5, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Tuesday, November 15, 6 – 8 p.m.; and Wednesday, November 30, 6 – 8 p.m.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, November 8, 6-8 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe returns to Wednesdays in 2016 starting on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, November 10 at 2 p.m. We will discuss Needful Things by Stephen King.

Science Saturday
Join us for the science of secret messages. Children, school age and up, your bring moms, dads, and the whole family. Saturday, November 12, 2:30 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth on Monday, November 14 at 2 p.m.

A Storytelling “Tellabration”
Storytellers from the Western Reserve Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling present an adult story concert. These stories are especially designed “not just for children.” Some tales will make you think, some will make you laugh, some will make you wonder, but all of them have hidden wisdom for you to discover. Registration is suggested. Thursday, November 17, 7 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, November 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

3rd – 4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m., we will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, November 21, we will read Lucky by Chris Hill.

Mini Teen Makerspace
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 6:30 p.m. we will get together and create with a different medium. On Tuesday, November 22, dye fabric material using flowers and vegetables.

After School Club
For children in K-4th grade. Once a month at 4 p.m. On November 23, we will make Indian headbands.
